Do people who have one night stands have more respect for themselves because they do not feel the need to conform to what society believes is morally correct, or do the lack self respect because of the nature of sex without a commitment?

I don't think they have more respect for themselves. I think they can come to an agreement and respect each other, however it isn' t always like that. Many times one has more intentions than the other, like the girl who thinks if she gives it, it will mean more. Or the guy who is on a mission to just see what number he can get to.
I actually have a child from a one-night stand and we totally respect each other, our families are very close and my son who is 17 is very very balanced and loved and feels loved.

If your sensible your just doing it for the thrill and fun of it and you have a good time becuase most normal people love a bit of s*x every now and again.
if you have low self esteem in the first place then you could be doing it in the hope that in the morning when the person you wake up with is not drunk anymore will think ohmy god your stunning and want to have a relationship with you and if you think that then they will sense the desperation and then never call you again unless they also think the same as you-match made in heaven

As long as there are no attachments on either side-(no cheating!!)-and as long as there is protection for each other from infections etc,then there is no problem.Its a learning curve for the young,but as one gets older,many things change and "one night stands" become blissfull memory's,along with other fond-(or not,as the case may be!!)-memory's,to be brought down and dusted off in our quieter moment's.Sod commitment!When you are young the world is your oyster,you are free to come and go as you please within the accepted boundary's of society's constraints,there is plenty of time for commitment when you get older-enjoy your younger years,laugh,sing and dance the nights away with carefree abandon,plenty of time for commitment later!We have all been there.

Its not about what the society feels in this case. Both the parties involved do that with the understanding of what they are going into. Bear in mind that there are certain ppl who need that small amt of love from someone. I am referring to the real serious ones. Then there are ppl who do it for fun. My guess is those kind of ppl also do settle down after a few instances and after acquiring some maturity or getting to know some one whom they can spend the rest of teh life with!

I don't know about self respect, but they might have less respect from other people.
It certainly feels better to have a girlfriend that hasn't slept with everyone you play football with too (trust me!!). But if a person doesn't want a relationship, isn't in a relationship and just wants the physics, then why not - as long as they take precautions.

I have more respect for myself because I know that I am only into sex, and for me to try to get it in a relationship would be against my nature...in other words, by having a one nighter I am being true to myself. And yes, I do enjoy the fact that I am a non-conformist in every aspect of my life.

THEY LACK SELF RESPECT. ONE NIGHT STANDS PROVE ONLY ONE THING: ONE OR BOTH PEOPLE INVOLVED ARE SCARED SH*TLESS OF COMMITMENT. OR MAYBE ONE WANTS COMMITMENT, BUT IS HELD BACK BCUZ OF OTHER ISSUES.
