It depends on the severity of the condition, not necessarily the condition itself. Some people with Hepatitis C have little to no symptoms and are able to work. Others are completely debilitated and disabled. SSI and SSD will not cover drug or alcohol addiction, but any mental or physical condition that results in the person being disabled, and therefore unable to work, is covered. Some people may even receive SSI or SSD when the treatment for their given condition leads to them being disabled and unable to work, if the condition itself doesn't.
I know someone suffering from Hepatitis C and unable to work that applied for SSI and SSD but was denied. She said that people afflicted with Hepatitis are usually denied their first time and have to reapply.
The Social Security Administration will be better able to answer this question for you.

By ssi, I assume you means Social Security Administration. A diagnosis of the disease is not an dsiability. If the person with the hep C is totally disabled and therefore unable to perform any paying work, then he is disabled according to SSA definition. The disaiblity must be expected to last at least 12 months or result in death.

Most people with hepatitis C do not qualify for disabiity. Most people live with the fatigue, and joint pain for years, but it doesn't stop them from working. If the liver becomes so damaged that the person needs a transplant, then they may have to fight to get disability. It is a long process. It's easier to get disability for depression than hepatitis C. Good luck.
