My new puppy (Who we brought home yesterday) has been having some problems, since last night. Her stomache got pretty big, way too big for her body, but she seems normal in activty. In the middle of the night, she started barking and crying and was trying to claw her wat out of her crate.
I took her outside, and she pee'd, but nothing else. Since then she has been restless. About 30 minutes ago, I took her out again, and did poop. This was the first time I actually saw little white worms in her poop. Since then she has pooped several other times, all solid, all with worms in them.
What type of worms does this sound like? Any idea where she got them?

Could she have tapeworms and round worms? I have seen worms the size of rice AND long worms in her poop.
Also, could her potbelly be caused by this?

Quick update. We called SPCA, and they told us she had been dewormed. So I assuming the worms I saw were just the ones being flushed out of the body?
Anyways, I do not see anymore worms, but now her poop is very running!
Also: Do the worms die? I have 2 other dogs, who are in their kennel (It is a large kennel, half of my backyard!) and they are staying in there until the puppy has her stiches out, but will the worms die? I don't want those dogs getting worms!

Yes, she can have both roundworms and tapeworms and possible a few others besides. Even if she was dewormed she likely needs to be done again since from your description she sounds like she is loaded with worms. Take a stool sample to the vet get it tested and have them give you the appropriate dewormer for the type(s) of worms she has. Do NOT use OTC products.
Puppies normally have worms. They need to be dewormed at 2, 4, 6 & 8 weks right along with mom. They also need to be dewormed periodically after that. It is wise to keep up on this since roundworms & hookworms can be transfered to humans if improper handwashing occurs. They can also be transfered on to other dogs & pets. Keep the poop picked up and areas clean. Tapeworms aren't transfereable to humans or other dogs/pets. The puppy/dog can only get them from fleas or from eating mice, moles, other rodents.

Round worms are about 4 inches long and white.
Tape worm egg segments are about 2 inches long and shrink up to the size of a grain of rice when they hit the air.
There are many good wormer at the pet stores. For round worm, get one with the active ingredients Pyrantel Pamoate. That is what the vets use and it will kill hook worm also. You can't see that one, but it is common.
For tape worm get Praziquantel. I would not use both wormers at the same time. Hook and Round are more dangerous to a pup, so worm for them first. If necessary, give the Praziquantel about a week later.

A puppy with a bloated looking belly is often a sign of worms, most likely roundworms, which are passed from the mother to the pups before they are born. Roundworms are often present in adult dogs in a dormant, encysted form which is activated by the hormonal changes of pregnancy. The majority of puppies have roundworms from birth. Most responsible breeders begin worming the pups quite young, before the pups go to their new homes and show symptoms such as you describe. Take a stool sample in to your vet when you take your puppy for an exam, which you should do ASAP after bringing the puppy home. Your vet will be able to examine it and tell you exactly which worms are involved (there are several other possibilities besides rounds) and will give you medicine to treat your pup.

This sound like roundworms which is treatable with a deworming. You also take a stool sample into your vet so they came run a sample to make sure there are no other worms. Tape worm are also white and look like rice which is treatable also with medication.

their hook worms -and most pups are born with worms, they get them usually from their mother. worms are from larva- parasites, mosquitoes, fleas etc: you need to take your pup to the vet so they can DE-worm her and give her -1st puppy shots, because she could end up with somethings far worse then worms. like distemper or pavo -corrona.

If they look like rice, she has tapeworm. Take her to the vet tomorrow and ask them about Cestex.
Tapeworms are from ingesting fleas.
