What's the difference between the ragular RAF SAC insignia and the new one that's enclosed by a white circle?

I've noticed this a couple of times now. There seems to be a new SAC rank insignia in the RAF where the three propellor blades are contained within a white circle.
The old traditional one still seems to be in use, so I'm assuming this new one is in some way trade-specific.
I've searched the RAF website and google, but to no avail.
Anybody know what this new insignia is all about?

the one in the circle is for an SAC TECH and it has replaced the j/t rank
