Italian Renassiance painters used local people as models, sometimes their patrons. In short, that 'classic' image is their ideal of male beauty.

Christ Jesus said, "Who has seen Me, has seen the Father."
In reality, Jesus had the appearance of a Semitic Jew of a robust built about 5’-11” tall, which was reconstructed via computer imaging from data points collected from the Shroud of Turin. The traditional sandy-haired and blue-eyed Caucasian Jesus is the direct influence from Western European Culture and their artists, because since the Illuminations of the Renaissance, the Anglo-Europeans commanded the culture and the arts due to the authority of the Anglo-European Royalty. Hence, they possessed the financial authority to commission artist to depict Jesus and the Holy Family in the "politically popular" cultural likeness, having Anglo-European attributes.
We are guilty of doing this today. A made for TV film produced by NBC in the mid 1990’s entitled, “Cleopatra and Mark Antony” depicted a “politically correct” Semitic Cleopatra with extra long natural black hair and dark Semitic skin, a radical departure from Elizabeth Taylor's casted depiction as a Caucasian glamour goddess. Though the "new" Cleopatra reflected the modern quest at an attempt to be ethnically genuine, it really wasn’t “correct” at all, but rather was disingenuous, due to the political influence of "multiculturalism". The real Cleopatra was Hellenistic a descendent from the Greek family of the Ptolemys. She had Caucasian skin and strawberry-blonde hair, and wore black wigs. Actually, Elizabeth Taylor's Cleopatra was far more accurate. The PC crowd had the license to do this, because they had the authority of the day to do so, though it did not reflect true reality.

If you read the prophesies of the Bible, long before Christs coming, it tells you he comes from the lineage of David, a royal line, thus a king and he came from Nazareth. So, he would have looked as any in that day, a beard was a Jewish tradition, I would think brown hair and eyes. Men were shorter then, so he be 5 foot something. His first images came from the masters (artists) paintings. Since they were Caucasian Europeans, their interpretations gave Him those same features and some were blue eyes.

That is not what Jesus looks like. I've seen Jesus and he doesn't look like that. Factually speaking he has dark brown hair, no beard, no mustache, and small blue eyes. He doesn't stand out in a crowd and the only way you'd notice him is if he revealed himself to you. He looks totally normal. Like an ordinary person. He wears a red T-shirt and drives a white Chevrolet Celebrity (199x?)

Jesus is not G-d. He was just a man who preached Judaism 2000 years ago. People who though he was G-d, found that one picture that they felt looked as he should have looked, and kept the ideal of it.
G-d is a different thing. You cannot depict G-d. Michelangelo painted him on the Sistine Chapel, with the kindly old Grandfatherly look. That was wrong. You should not try to depict G-d. All one needs to know is, ''G-d is''.

We humans know what Jesus looks like from the descriptions provided by those who originally walked the earth with him. For some reason, none of that was included in scripture.
As for all the later artists conceptions ... whatever floats your boat!

he did start as a typical Jew from the Galilee, that is tall and strong farm boy, brown or black hair, bearded, large nose, strong carpenter hands, a typical Semite.
than all these priests in Europe slowly changed him into a thin European half starved monk.

imagination....im 90% sure. 'cos if u want to picturise God, u can't show him as a short, ugly guy. also, Jesus was supposed not to spend too much time on beautification... hence he was shown sporting a long beard.

don't know. I never pictured him that way. I try not to form a human conception of him, because hes was much more than just a typical human being.
