Sorry to break it to you, but you cant tell him something heart-breaking without breaking his heart. Thats why its called heart-breaking. You'll just have to do it.

There is no easy way to unwind a clock once its wound up, is there? You let it go too far before you decided to set it straight. You must have led him to believe he stood a chance with you, and let it go, and continued to the point of him having the wrong impression. You have to set it straight, and there is no easy way to do it. You have to be honest about your feelings towards him. How did you lead him to believe this? He is one of your boyfriends, right? This means you hang with him, right? How did it get this far? Why did you even go out with him if you aren't interested in him also? There are more questions than answers here, and you let it get to this point, and now you want to drop him like a bad habit. The clue here is boyfriends. Just how many do you have? Do you intend to hurt all of them? Think about what you are doing here. If you don't wish to hurt someone, then you need to be honest, and up front right away, rather than keeping a string of guys, so you will have a back up in case you can't go with one, you have another. This is wrong for you to do this. You need to learn to be a little more one guy type girl here. Next you will have them all fighting over you. Get real here, and straighten it out before it goes any further.

Just be open and tell him the truth. Make sure you say it to him when you are alone not when there are other people around (espcially your or his friends), it's the guys' ego thingy.
Also tell it to him soon, don't play around with him, because you will hurt him even more.

Do it the old fashioned way, go missing. After a while he'll put two and two together and realise you aren't worth his time. This way you'll make it seem like he dumped you when you know you left him way before.
