It's to protect you from being hacked. Plus microsoft make changes to make Windows run better. Just make sure you are running a legal copy.

Windows microsoft updates are VERY important. the updates are for many things such as firewall protection, virus protection, etc. it helps your pc stay protected. the main updates u have to have are SP1 and SP2
