my mom would run the shower REALLY hot (NO don't put him in it..Don't laugh..someone would IF I didn't write that!!!) then sit on the toilet holding one of us and the hot steam would help break up the congestion ~it won't cure it but it will open the bronchial area of the lungs and SHOULD help relieve SOME of his discomfort. THen make an appointment for the doctor ASAP and get him on a stronger antibiotic...but it being Sunday...and it's not an emergency...try the steam to help...

Is it a barky cough if so it's croup and the baby needs cold air if not the baby needs warm air. Asthma and irritation from allergic rhinitis can also cause scary sounding coughs. Once diagnosed ( by a doctor) , if it's only a cold cough then you can give your baby warm fruit tea with honey. Boil an apple pear or a regular pear if you cant get an apple pear (asian pear), not an apple because it has herbal antihistamines which can dry the baby up and keep the infection there longer. Add some honey to the pear tea and let your baby drink it. It's very soothing. You can also semi megadose with vitamin C ie not the 1000mg adults take but maybe around 50-100mgs 2/3 times a day.

If the cough sounds like a seal barking then it is croup. I know that b/c my daughter gets it all the time but really need to get her check out at the dr. Take her to the bathroom and let her breath in the steam from the shower. This will help her alot other med need to read the label but I would get her into the dr. before giving her any other type of med. b/c of her age. The fluid of the ear is going down to her throat which more than like cause her to cough. Good luck

You need to call your doctor and set up an appointment then they can give you some med for your childs age. Also, get a COOL breeze humidifier (wal-mart has one for 19 dollars) place a pillow under his matress, so that the bed is tilted, but he is not- (helped my son sleep). All those should help- also there is an infant version of the vicks vapor rub. But make sure you go to the doctor, b/c it might be something more serious- when my son was 4 months old they thought he had colic b/c he was crying and very fussy and had a little cough. I didn't by it (us moms have a feeling) and she humored me and did a chest x-ray- turns out is was a lot worse. (my son wasn't acting sick, so it was a shock. Also, by going to the doctor they are able to get you a breathing treatment for your son.

Good luck, and don't worry it will get better- just keep him comfy and give him lots of lovins'.

Take him to the doctor ASAP. It is most likely connected to the ear infection. Most likely a build up of fluid. Call emergency if the cough is affecting his ability to breathe.

Tylenol won't do anything for a cough, it will only help with fevers and pain. If the cough lessens, you could try some infant dimetapp. But take him to a doctor first.

Is it a congested sounding cough of a wheezing sounding cough? If it is the congested sounding cough, you can give him the infants robitussian. Ask the pharmacist how much. If it is wheezing sounding, try taking him out in the cool air for a few minutes. I have asthma and that helps my wheezing. Also if he is wheezing a lot you may need to take him to the ER and have them give him a breathing treatment. Good LUck.

I would buy a bottle of Vicks Vapor bath. Its made for infants and toddlers but works great for the whole family. That with the steamed up bathroom will help his cold a little. For pain and fevers I always have had better luck with Motrin, and you can switch it off with Tylenol every other dose. So at 8am tylenol, 10 am motrin, 12pm tylenol... You get it. They make if for infants and toddlers as well. You could always try Infant Vicks vapor rub (stuff you put on the chest) and just dab a little tiny bit on.
Listen for wheezing incase its actually more then a cold.
Good LUck

aww, Is it a croupy cough?, It could be the fuid draining from his ear, hence ear nose and throat, they are all connected, it could be irratating his little throat, tyleonol probably wont help unless it has something in it for coughs, but dont give him any until youve put a call in to the doctor, you dont want to give him to much, in the meantime try going in the bathroom and sitting there with him while your shower steams up bathroom, it may help, good luck

Try Delsym, it is made for children and it only targets the cough. No drowsiness or side effects and it works for 12 hours. I love it, my pediatrician told me about it when my son was 2. You can find it anywhere, I buy it at Walmart or Walgreen's. Try it, it's great and you can sleep at night not worrying about that nasty cough. I hear EVERYTHING when my son is sick.
