Prepare for a LOT of paperwork!! As an American wanting to live here in Germany, I had to fill out tons of papers, and send then to the US and back and forth, and then have everything OFFICIALLY translated.. and then I wanted to marry, and then it was everything all over again, and now I want to exchange my drivers license and .. once again.. ! It would be easier for you if you came from some 3rd world country, rather than the US. Good Luck.

Check out the official site of the U.S. Department of State. They include information about countries and regions, travelling and living abroad, and much more. There you can learn about the host nation, the laws, visa etc... Try to learn a little bit of the language before coming, its very hard and people are not always willing to help. I lived there and I got a lot of nein/nay when I asked if anyone spoke English. Good luck
