3 words, guns, steel and dieases.

If it wasn't for those 3 factors, They could have never colonize the Americas, India, Africa, French indo china, parts of china and other places.

Ironic isn't it, science gave religion power and now religion doesn't want science around because science is slowly freeing people.

You must do your own homework, it is just too big of a question for this forum. You know, Jesus was God in flesh. That in itself is powerful enough that people of the world were taken back by this and were thirsting for His word. Jesus only lived 32 yrs, and only traveled a very small distance from where he was born, and yet for 2,000 yrs. his existance has made the most powerful impact of this word and people that this world has ever witnessed. If this is not for homework assignment, I would say, it really does not matter when it started, the fact that it did, and I image it began with the death of Jesus. Religion has always seem to be the subject of debate and wars, but yet, it is here. Human nature is sin, and people seem to want to get beyond this and live a better life. That is all I can tell you, but faith is a very strong and powerful thing, but can be also mis-interrupted as well.

Initially, Christianity was a minor sect within the Jewish religion and was only for Jews. For example, they had to eat kosher and be circumcised. When Paul traveled to Europe, he dropped such demands so that gentiles could become Christians. From then on its spread was somewhat dependant on both politics and its ability to accept local religious customs. I might make one point. It didn’t spread to “barbarian tribes,” rather, as an element of Roman culture it spread to Pagan cultures through force of Roman arms. As it spread in this manner it changed to fit local Pagan religious requirements. Due to this adaptability and the associated “kill those not adapting” it has become a potent political force throughout the world..

Many centuries ago the Vatican wasn't just the place were the Popes live. They actually had a big territory and a very powerful army. They got all that stuff from presents made by the rich christians (this includes kings, feudal lords, etc.). They also started selling "God's forgiveness" for money (indults).

They used the sword to spread Christianity(e.g. Spain Colonies). Some mixed Paganism with Christianism.(superstitions). Many just believe only.

Christianity is introduced by the cross and the sword. just like how the Spaniards treated the Filipinos and other former Spanish colonies before.
