If you were going to attend services, wouldn't you rather attend a local church that could fit your needs? They have displayed time and again that they are very fallible. Just look at the big names from the past: Jimmy Swaggart, the Bakkers, etc. who were involved in scandals that people were not that forgiving when they occurred. Yet people hold them to inhuman standards and then make a fuss when they aren't all that "they're supposed to be as leaders of God". You can't have both.

Also, most of them, a large percentage of the country isn't even familiar with who they are unless they watch them every week.

Religion is not supposed to be a business though. Your soul should not be dependant on how much money you give away to someone who will line their own pockets with it instead of using it for the good of others who really do need it.

When I figure that one out, I will definitely let you know. It makes absolutely no sense to me. I prefer a personal relationship with my religious leaders.

Friend, I don't go for any TV evangelists. They beg for money, & I have seen many ask us to send our tithes to them, First of all, My tithes goes to my storehouse, which is my Home church where I go to, & also many of those TV preachers have Jets & living high off the hog, when I first got saved in 1970, I too was caught up to some point in that stuff, But yet I knew as a young Christian, that something did not ring a bell in my ears, I was in one meeting somewhere from 1970 to 1974, That this preacher said that God showed him that there was 5 people that God is speaking to, To give $1000 each, well, there was 6 people standing up & still this Preacher said I am waiting for more to stand up, I thought if God said 5 he meant 5 & not 6 & still waiting. That was in my very early days of being a Christian, Why did I go to those places, I thought that anyone that had a bible was called of God, As I matured in Living for God & seeing the true revelation of his word, I began to shun those false Ideals, Now it has been over 36 yrs. & I know where & what I stand on.

I'm Catholic, so I don't watch them -- most of them are evangelicals. But I guess one reason for their popularity is: if they're eloquent enough to be on TV in the first place, it probably means that they have a knack for getting people to rally around them.

There was a Catholic bishop named Fulton Sheen who was popular on the radio and TV many decades ago -- he was a powerful preacher, much like televangelists today. But without the pitches for money.

They offer quick fixes for peoples problems. Religion can be very lucrative. Have you caught the late night Evangelists on Cable TV who will send you a "Miracle Cloth" or "Miracle Water" ? They send it to you free but then ask you for donations for the next 3 years and sell your name to a religious charity list.

Good question. Why put stock into anything any man says as they are all fallible? Why not simply put stock in the bible and call it a day?
