Owl ownership is on the rise thanks to movies like Harry Potter.
It is NOT illeagal to own an owl in the UK. It IS illeagal in the US.
People should not own Owls .. as they are wild birds that hunt and are not domesticated like smaller birds, cats or dogs...
Potter author backs campaign against owl pets
JK Rowling has joined a campaign to crack down on the irresponsible ownership of owls, which is being unwittingly encouraged by the hit films based on her books. The campaign is run by Neil and Juliana Fowler, who run the Scotton Owl and Raptor Rehabilitation (Soarr) sanctuary from the garden of their home in Scotton Village, near Richmond, North Yorkshire. JK Rowling's stories feature Hedwig, a snowy owl, and the couple say the films have encouraged parents to try to obtain the birds for their children.

Harry Potter merchandise may be flying off the shelves, but an animal charity is warning parents not to consider buying the ultimate junior wizard accessory - a pet owl. Since the release of the blockbuster film, the RSPCA has received dozens of inquiries to call centres and animal sanctuaries from parents looking for owls. But the charity and owl experts say the birds, with six-foot wingspans and sharp beaks and talons, do not make ideal pets. Go to the BBC for more info

All British birds are protected and I think you will find that it is illegal to buy an owl as a pet or for any other reason. For information on whether there is a way to purchase and keep an owl as a pet legally in the UK google the Royal society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) website.

Ok First of all it is not illeagle to own an owl in the uk. What facilities have you got a nice aviary I hope. as they need space.
then you need a deepfreeze to keep frozen mice and chicks in. you have to make sure you defrost these properly every day. Owl's dropping actually stink so you have to keep them very clean otherwise you wont be very popular.
If you buy an owl that is resident in the uk it has to be close rung with papers.
Dont keep an Owl in a cage or flying around your house you wont like it much.
Check out falconry web sites but personall and from a lot of experience please do not get one.

Why do you want a pet owl? Birds are not meant to be pets, they should be free. Leave it alone and get a goldfish.

When you go to celebrate HPs Birthday by having tea on harry potters birthday with your friends at a shop dedicated to HP.

Owl's are protected species and owning one is illegal in this country. The RSPB/RSPCA would prosecute anybody who owns one. Unless you are a licenced rescue centre/wildlife rehab centre. You are probably best finding a local sanctuary and asking if you can go and have a look at theirs
