The Way Through the Woods.
Even though the road has been closed, trees have been re-planted and nature has taken its course, if a person, with the knowledge of its existence, were to walk through it, the surroundings would envoke the memories & sensations of yesteryear.
The closing of the road only physically terminated its existence. Metaphysically, the passage of the past is still present.

My interpretation of this poem is that too often we go with the flow and don't try new things or different ways. You will never appreciate the valley if you haven't seen them from the top of a mountain. The easy way is not always the most rewarding. Life is full of brambles and obstacles and if we overcome them that makes a difference but if we take the easy route then we learn nothing new. Instead of taking the motorway take the country roads they are so much more interesting and beautiful.

I think the meaning is;

There was once a Road. Nobody sees it anymore. That Road is still there. Many people have forgotten about it. But you DON'T forget, there was once a Road and that ROAD is still there for you to take.

I hope this helps you, Good Luck.

It means you have never read it, as you fail to understand such a simple theme.
