DO NOT PUNISH THE DOG! Is the dog ever taken outside? If it isnt it needs to be outside for at least 2 HOURS a day before it will lear that when it needs to go outside, scratch the door. I had to teach my basset too. it was hard, but Idone it for about 2 weeks and he finally learned that he cant pee anywhere.

Beating any animal does not work. The best way to house break any dog is to"Crate Train" them.

You need a crate or kennel to put him/her in. This is a must for overnite stays. Normally animals will not potty where they sleep.

Set a schedule for potty breaks & do not leave food & water out at all times.

I had a routine with my Doberman and he has been great ever since.

NOOOOO.
I used rugs from Ikea. Once the dog did their thing on it, the smell says. Whenever you think it's time for the dog to pee, put it on the rug and with a gentle kind voice say pee-pee, or poo poo. Just talk nice to your dog. It worked for me. My dog only does her peeing on these rugs. Wash them everyday though.
Good Luck. If you don't mind spending money you can buy doggy diapers and tape it on the floor. Didn't work for me as dogs are also inquisitive and might chew on it.

Start by putting down newspapers where he usually pees, then start putting them only where you would rather have him pee.... After he starts peeing in the specified locations where you put the newspapers, start picking up his dropping from the newspapers and putting them outside (or wherever you'd rather he went) and show him where you've put them.... Soon enough he'll be going there and stop going where you don't want him to.
