They really demonize ALL evolutionists and lump us into one big extremist category. Anyone else find this a bit manipulative?

The Intelligent Design movement is all ABOUT manipulation. They're successfully convincing a lot of people that the creation/evolution debate is actually being discussed in laboratories. They're telling people that scientists are actually sitting around arguing about whether or not the world is 6,000 years old. Not only is that a load of crap (come on, the scientific community supports evolution and it's not even close), they're deliberately spreading misinformation in order to push a religious agenda. How some people can call that science is beyond me.

Not really, they simply show some "flaws" (problems that are hard to explain with the existing evidence) in the current evolution theory.

Then they take a huge leap of faith and conclude that there is no other explanation other than some intelligent creator being evolved.

After that non-scientists like Anne Coulture take the argument out of context, and put spin on it. For example the accusation that science is beyond debate which is of course a lie. That said, even some of the proponents of intelligent design, who are typically scientists that have faith, know this to be untrue.

In essence if you want to understand science, don't listen to a lawyer and vice versa.

The Discovery Institute is a bunch of pseudo-scientists who are trying to subvert legitimate science in a cynical ploy to get religion back into the classroom through the back door. The Scientific community do not take them seriously and they are considered a pathetic joke, still they are persistent and people of low discerment will maybe still get suckered-in and this is their intention.
Intelligent Design is not a scientific theory it is wishful thinking and is not scientific at all.

Yes. Apparently it's lead by a gentleman called Phillip E. Johnson (a retired lawyer).

First, I must say that I'm Christian. And I do find their Biblical literalism frustrating and offensive. But what I'm seeing is people who lack faith; who are insecure enough that they think God must show them all the cards in the deck--where the world came from and where it's going to. Beyond that, they're only rationalizing their behavior.
