I have a Singapura breed which is of South East Asian decent and I was wondering if it is normal for her not to hiss. Catnip has no affect on her as I read that this is a hereditary trait and very common for cats of Asian decent to have no reaction to catnip. I've had her 2 months and she's never hissed - I even got this toy called the play paw which I put over my hand and arm and she attacks and plays with but is yet to hiss. Is this normal that she does not hiss or has she just had nothing to hiss about. She meows constantly but never hisses. Any idea if this is normal?

She sounds like a really sweet cat. You must be making her happy if she hasn't hissed for two months. Congratulations. I think you're doing a great job, and I wouldn't do anything to intentionally make her hiss, hissing shows that they are angry in some way, and you haven't angered or scared her, so good for you! :-)

Actually, I have seen a lot of different types of cats that don't hiss. It's normal, they don't feel like doing it or have no idea they can do it. My cat meows so much she drives me NUTS, lol, but never hisses either.

Don't listen to that guy who just called you a bad name, he is jobless and has no life. I have had about 7 cats in my life and lots of them hissed at me sometimes, but It's normal. Sometimes it just might be a hairball, lol, dont worry about it. And all it needs is love, thats all, you shoulldnt worry, even if it hisses, it doesnt mean it hates you.

She has probably never been angry or scared, which are the only times a cat will hiss.

why would you want her to hiss? you do understand what a hiss means right?

a wag of a tail means I'm playful or I'm getting irritated. wagging of a tail means back off....I'm in a BADDDDD mood.

a hiss means I've reached my limit...get near me again and its on, claws coming at you.

hiss is a final warning in a cats language...its pure anger or defensive mode due to another cat.

Your cat is fine. I had a cat for 18 years that only hissed once. The only reason he hissed is he got REALLY frightened.

She has nothing to hiss about. Bring her a dog and you'll see if she'll hiss or not!

This is normal. If she is angry, then she will hiss.
