I'm buying a watch for my daughters 16th birthday, do you think 400 to 600 dollars is a bit much, she lives out of state and I won't see her in the near future (probably years).

she moved out of state in feb of this year and I never missed my visitation, I seen her as much as I could, so it's not like I'm buying her love.

Honestly, money does not matter, as long as she knows it has come from you she won't care how much you spent on her.

I don't think it's to much; no one else can really put a dollar amount on how you want to express your love through a gift to your daughter and as we know, the 16th birthday is monumental! So, most people tend to go above and beyond on that birthday from the gift aspect, as well as the party etc.

And for those who will say, "She could lose the watch, etc." the reality there is ALL material things can be lost at any age, so that is irrelevant. I think she is old enough to know what "responsibility" means.

Should you decide to go with something other than a watch, think about a nice diamond tennis bracelet; with what you intend to spend, you could get a very nice one!!! I think it is something to be said for the 1st man in a young ladies life to give her diamonds is her DADDY!!!! Think about it...it gives the average "boyfriend" a hard act to follow, when the Dad sets the standard!

Be blessed!

I wouldn't want to have to worry about a watch that cost that much.

Just because you may not be able to see her it doesn't mean, I'm assuming, you won't be able to stay in touch. Keeping in touch regularly and talking about what is going on in each of your lives is the most important thing.

Most young people today don't wear watches. They have other gadgets that tell time. Such as cell phone etc. Get her an I pod if she doesn't have one ready. There are so many things out on the market. Just watches have become somewhat out dated.

I don't think amount of money you spend on someone should matter. She's your daughter you love her and want to buy her something nice. Go ahead and get it if you think that she is responsible enough to take care of it!!!

I don't think you need to spend that much on a watch ! If she really needs one there are pretty cool watches for a lot less than that !

DON"T DO IT !!! Take it from some one that has a spoiled daughter, there may be one day you can not give to her what she wants and thats when your problems begin !!

if you think she'll like it.......use it..take care of it...appreciate the value of the gift ( not dollar value)...by all means send her the 600 dollar watch..
