adam and eve didnt have the knowledge of good and evil when they took the forbidden fruit and so didnt know that it was wrong to disobey god and hence it wasnt sin. Thus the original sin doesnt exist.

The idea of original sin is a forgiving one. It means that it is part of our human nature to sin, part of something we inherit, going back all the way to Adam and Eve.

This is why God can keep forgiving us, time after time. He understands that it's just part of our nature to sin.

If we were born perfect, without "original sin" (or a natural, inherited propensity to sin), then why shouldn't God expect us to remain perfect, and live up to that high standard?

The doctrine of original sin is a doctrine of forgiveness.

As for the first part of your question, a lot of other people already answered this. What they got was a conscience so they would know right from wrong when God wasn't around to make public announcements. Until then, they relied on God to tell them.

By the way, none of this has anything to do with whether Adam and Eve were historical characters or whether this is a beautiful parable full of wisdom passed down for 4000 years, teaching us about who we are, who God is, and about the nature of our relationship to Him. To those who believe Adam and Eve were historical characters, that's great -- you'll get no criticism from me. To those who do not, I have no criticism either, and suggest that you read the Bible for its wisdom and not sweat the small stuff.

yup. but remember that logic had not been invented yet either.
God, who knows everything, needed Adam to tell him the names of all the animals. This means that God did not know the names. If God did not know the names then he can't be all knowing.

All of the people that say it was disobedience that was the original sin are wrong. God supposedly knows the future, therefore the eating of the apple was part of his plan. Adam and Eve were set up and punished for something that God planned for them to do.

Note also that they literally had no knowledge of good or evil or shame until after they ate the apple, and they first thing they did was put some clothes on, not run and hide. No knowledge of good or evil would also mean they did not understand that what they did was wrong, even that disobeying would be wrong. This is the legal definition of the incompetence or insanity defence.
Therefor Adam and Eve were insane up until they ate the Apple.

They never had the Knowledge of Good and Evil that's why they heard the word of the evil one. If they had the knowledge they would not have eaten that fruit.
But the wrong they did is disobeyed God. Even though Satan told them to eat of that tree they could have obeyed God. So they have sinned.

Oh dear. First off, for EVERY question that has been creatively thought up to challenge the Bible there are at least 10 extremely sly and creative answers. I suggest you set your sights on finding what you really believe rather than proving or disprooving the Bible... (Look into Philosophy -- Read a book called "Sophies World" to get you started!)

As for your question: Adam and Eve did not have the knowledge of good and evil with they took the forbidden fruit, this is true. However, they *did* know the difference between right (listening to God) and wrong (NOT listening to God) when the fruit was taken. They were told by God. But they didn't know what the consequences of their actions would really be. Perhaps that is what really set time into motion--but who knows. Sin is disobeying God, and they directly disobeyed him when they ate of the tree.

According to John Wesley's Explanatory Notes in Genesis 2:

There was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil - So called, not because it had any virtue to beget useful knowledge, but because there was an express revelation of the will of God concerning this tree, so that by it he might know good and evil. What is good? It is good not to eat of this tree: what is evil? To eat of this tree.

God did not put in the fruit of this tree any particular knowledge. He simply put it there as a test for Adam and Eve. He told them, personally, to not eat of the tree. They knew they weren't supposed to. That is why they hid. Thus, the original sin was essentially disobeying a direct command from God Almighty. No wonder humanity got off to a bad start. God bless!

If you're serious about finding the truth then here it is.....

God told Adam not to eat. Adam told Eve that God said not to eat.... God never spoke to Eve. But Eve brought about the down fall of Mankind.

Adam already had Good knowledge that came from God as being that God created Adam in his (God) image..... if you read Genesis more clearly, it will point out that Adam named all of creation, which shows that Adam was very intelligent.... he had divine knowledge. How many species do you think was around at that time?

The knowledge gained was consciousness of evil... to know who Satan was and to bring about his demise one day.

Adam and Eve lived in a paradise, eating from that tree is the one thing God forbade. Hence the term "forbidden fruit".

So far you have four thumbs down. Those people probably are Christians and can't handle thinking questions like this one. I gave you your second thumbs up. That is a very good point you make. It never occurred to me. I was raised Southern Baptist but feel much better now. Nobody I was around ever brought that up. Most Christians are like sheep, why else would preachers call them that and refer to them as their "flock"? They run on blind faith. They automatically believe what their religious leaders tell them.

maybe they didn't know why they shouldn't eat from the tree...but someone they had trusted and respected had told them not to. Whether they thought it was right or wrong to disobey Him, if a friend tells you not to do something...and you respect them, you wouldn't do it would you? And what would you rather believe...life on earth started from a protein...there is a million faults in that idea.

some corrections:
Eve had it first, Adam stayed stupid for a while longer, some say he is still stupid, at least sometimes.
Adam and eve knew, before they ate the fruit, that it was forbidden to eat the fruit, they did not know why God forbade them (he did so because he was afraid they will make him redundant, which we do today).
After they ate they were certainly aware of what they did and expected punishment, that's why they hid, and when found gave a lousy excuse why they hid.
