My friend is trying to set me up a blind date with this deaf guy. She doesn't know him that well. I've seen pic of him, he seems really cute. My friend say he seems to be a really loner and very quiet.

I don't mind that, but I'm kinda uneasy about him being deaf. I don't know what to do.

I can understand that him being a stranger and deaf could be an interesting issue to over come.

But he sounds (from what little you've described) to be a nice enough chap, and just because he's deaf- thats not a reason to NOT date him.

In fact he's more than likely felt ignored and isolated because people have chosen not to even try to communicate with him.

He'll be astonished and over the moon that an attractive girl is showing some interest and attention to him.

Over dinner or what ever you do on your date- speak clearly and move your mouth so the words you make are easily read by him.

Learning sign language may take some time, but if you find you quite like him and want to continue to see him- you may consider classes.

You said he's cute, a bit of a loner and quiet. Hardly the mark of a man who is undesirable as a partner- hes unlikely to do wrong by you.

So give him a chance- they don't come along very often.

You don't say how old this guy is but if he is over 16 then he's had a fair time to learn to deal with people he can't hear.My feeling is that if you would go on a blind date then go on this one. He may even sound a bit different because of his deafness but he might also be the nicest man you are ever going to meet. He might appear to be a loner because he thinks people are uneasy in his company and very quiet because it's hard work communicating with unsympathetic individuals.

i say go on the date and learn basic sign language before doing so, girl. let him know that you don't feel too comfortable because you are afraid of not being able to understand what he says. he'll be so aware of this already, so honesty is always the best policy. look at the bright side: at least if things don't work out, you'll get a new friend! because deaf or not, a person is still a person and he might be a good friend too :)

good luck!

who cares if he's deaf......how would you feel if someone made you feel different if you were deaf...or blind or missing one leg or an arm.

we are that, that is inside us...not what is on the exterior. only shallow people look at exterior.

go on the date, you never know...he might read lips..he might even speak well, maybe you'll have to write messages down to talk...no different than texting on a phone, right?

to judge him on being deaf alone is just flat up morally wrong.

What does him being deaf concern you? He might turn out to be the man of you're dreams. Go on the date then go from there. Good luck.

My advice to you is just be his friend, no need to go into all the relashionship, after all, romance needs communication. So my point is, you can't go on a date with a deaf guy...dont do it just to make him feel better, just be his friend...friends are the best things you could have!

Just try, but don't be so nice if you really feel you don't want be with him or better take some friends with you just to not be like date you and him to just find out what and how can be the relationship with him. This give you more time to think about it.

Only you can make that choice. I'd offer you a way to view this as an opportunity. Possibly to learn something new or see a different side of life. It's just a date...not a lifetime commitment.

I don't see what the problem is... most deaf people can read lips, so I don't think that communication will be a problem... Go for it!!!
