Is data entry pro reliable?

Has anyone got involved with the home based data entry where they promise you earning from $500 to 1K a day. How reliable is it. Why do we have to pay $$$

I got sucked into a scam like this over 10 years ago when houses didnt have multiple computers, the only internet was slow dial-up and windows was 95! I paid about $29 for information on how to work from home doing typing for envelope addresses and the ad claimed there was no envelope stuffing involved - just address labels. Since I can type faster than most people talk, I signed up.

What I got was a list of companies that have huge mailing lists and a form letter to send them to offer my services from home. Turns out I had to stuff envelopes after all!

I spent some money on postage, bought the letterhead and tweaked the form letter a bit but didnt get a single response from any one remotely interested in having data entry done for them.

When I tried to contact the company I sent money to again, they had changed addresses so I called the Better Business Bureau who told me this was a mail scam to collect money on hopes of having a better life.

They said that most of these companies send you a few typed pages of how to get other people to send you money for similar typed pages. It only takes a PO Box and a few dollars to place those ads in shopper papers - they collect and disappear - laughing all the way to the bank.

DONT DO IT!

I wouldn't sign up for it or any job that claims to able to get you a work at home job for a fee. There are reputable companies that do offer work at home opportunities and do it without a fee. However, it is not easy to locate them even with a list because they are not hiring all the time. I am considering applying to one particular company I know of but probably in 2008.
