There is a shortage of American long grain rice lately. Loads of people have commented.

No shortage of Amer. Long Grain Rice here. What brands do you normally buy over there? Is the typy you buy Converted, Regular or Instant. I do find this a curious thing.

Problem is one of contamination of stocks by GM rice. Quoting from GMWatch.org, 'Rice cargoes are "frozen" at European ports and rice mills while sampling and testing for the illegal rice variety proceeds.........It appears that almost all the rice in storage from the 2005 harvest is contaminated.'

In Europe, American rice has been pulled, because they found that it has been contaminated with genetically altered rice. No genetically modified rice has been approved in the E.U..

Try Basmati rice, I use it all the time. You can get it in grocery or in Asian groceries at very reasonable rates. It takes slightly less water and slightly less time to cook Basmati rice.

Are you in the UK because if so Makro sells it in 5kg bags the only problem is you have to be a trade member.
