Have you seen him? Has he sat down and talked to you? Why would God not reveal himself, and prove he's real? Do an infomercial or something, at least. Why is belief based only on faith, rather than on solid proof? And no, the bible is not sufficient proof - it's a book, written by men. Therefore, like characters in other fictions, I must assume he clearly is not real. I don't have any recurring issues - I learn from what I do wrong, and I move on. Don't need an invisible sky man for that, and never have.

Because there is no proof or any evidence that god exist. Why don't people believe in god? a better question would be why should we? How can we accept something to be real when there is absolutly no evidence. There is nothing wrong in believing in god and it's good but to say "He clearly must be" Where is the logic in that?

People won't accept that god is real for many reasons. Science is one, but it's not a big one. Some of us have had crappy lives, and enjoy taking it out on god by declaring him to not exist. After all, if you don't believe in him, he can't hurt you. Just like the boogy man.
Some of us see the violence in the world and ask ourselves what kind of loving merciful god would allow this to continue. After all, I he truly is omnipotent, could he stop all the famine, war, and pestilence. And death for that matter. Is the apple from a tree really more powerful than god? Apparently so.
Some of us look at people in the church. And realize that many don't live christ like lives.
However, the largest group of us nonbelievers follow the teachings of Trent Reznor (singer from Nine Inch Nails), the one true god of industrial rock. If I could quote from one of his parables, "God is dead! And noone cares!" He's a very spiritual man. :)) And nin rocks!
oh yeah. and the big bang. evolution. and all that groovy jazz.

Prove one exists. Come to where I live and bring a five day old dead body back to life.
If you say, "Only 'god' can do that," then tell your "god" to do it.
If you say, "You don't test 'god'," you're dishonest. You made the claim, so it's up to you to prove it.
If you say that I have to prove anything, you're switching the burden of proof. That means I can switch the burden of proof as well.
Prove that you're not a pedophile. It's the same argument you're using.
You as a godbot have every right to believe there is a "god" and to have a religion, but when you start making claims you can't back up, don't be surprised when you're challenged.

Because he isn't. Not trying to be offensive, but based on my own reading, critical thinking and rationality, I have come to a conclusion that god does not exist.
I do not have issues in life. I am happy, I am satisfied, and I am perfectly content knowing that there is no god.
The question should be: why can't some christians accept that we have come to our own conclusions about the existence of god, based on perfectly legitimate reasons? Me trying to accept that god is real is akin to trying to accept that a turquoise feather duster is orbitting jupiter: there is simply no proof for me to believe so.

For the same reason people do or do not believe in Ghosts, Aliens, Mythical Beasts, Dinosaurs (there are some out there, I've met them).
For some, the amount of proof and faith is enough.
For others, it isn't.
Mostly to me it seems that it has to be the personality of the person as well as whether or not they were: taught from early on that such things or people are true and did exist (and still do), touched by an event that made them reconsider their standpoint, or made to fear that by rejecting the existence of someone or something that a terrible punishment or death would befall them (such as going to hell in the case of Christianity).

God is Real.
http://www.biblebelievers.com/the-reason-why.html
quote:
=============================
If you open your Bible at Romans 10:9-11 you will read : "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession in made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed."
You say you have accepted Christ; go and tell someone, do not be ashamed to confess Him. Why should you be? Suppose I had fallen off a wharf, injuring myself so that I could not swim, and a labourer working on a coal barge had plunged in and saved me. If a month later you saw me walking down Main Street and the same labourer, all begrimed with coal dust, coming up from the opposite direction; and you saw that I noticed him first but deliberately turned to look into a store window, so that I would not have to stop and greet him, what would you think of me?
You have declared that you believe the Lord Jesus Christ had given His life to save you. Occasions will arise when you will meet Him face to face in the presence of those who despise Him. Will you be ashamed and look the other way, or will you honour Him in both word and deed as your Lord and Saviour? Having really accepted Him, you must and you will acknowledge Him.

I do not accept that god is real because in the words of Carl Sagan, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." Why do you believe that god is real when overwhelming evidence shows that he/she is not? Show me one prayer answered that cannot be explained by coincidence (or the services of a doctor). Show me one Bible prophesy fulfilled that is not full of ambiguous metaphors. Tell me what god looks like (I am sure that you will claim to have a relationship with him.). Do any one of these things and I will gladly believe. The onus is on YOU however--because you make these claims!

Most atheists have religion forced on them. People interpret religion, and all too often, impose there own fears on to the "rules".
Personally, I think religion has been abused over centuries and used as a tool. I look inside myself for God. I don't like most organized religion because I don't trust them and I prefer to think for myself. Hope it works for you.

some people have had their faith broken so completely they can't see how God could be real, some just don't see how it's possible because he's not physically present, and some people aren't sure whether or not God is real. People have recurring issues because they didn't solve 'em the first time around, they didn't learn whatever lesson they had to learn. Least, that's what I think when it comes to recurring problems. The stuff about why people don't accept God as real, I know people, good friends of mine, who fall into one or another of those categories.
