As for as I know I am fully African American, but I have the strangest hair. For instance, I cant go along time w/o washing it bc it will look ams have that oily smell. I also cant use very many african american products or my hair will be very limp. When I blow dry it comes out relatively straight, it is just very thick, however there are not any naps or kinks. The strangest thing is that if I wash it and I dont blowdry my hair will be curly. Kind of like the curls that Eva the Diva, *black chic from America's Next Top Model* What is up with this? It can be straight, when I blow dry it, curly when I air dry it and wavy if I dry it, but if run some warm water over a hair brush. WHat is wrong with my hair?!?

there are obviously some IGNORANT people in here bc they obviously dont seem to comprehend the question. The question has nothing 2 do with race; it is just simply talking about the texture of my hair. BTW, my hair is NOT KINKY or Nappy and I dont have 2 relax my hair. My question is that I dont understand why it it is able to be some many diff. textures w/o altering it with chemicals!

It seems to me that you have naturally wavey-curly hair which is why it will frizz and curl, and wave when you dry it off with a hair dryer or just naturally. When you use a brush and a dryer or a straightener it will flatten out your curl and give you straightened hair but it will remain thick if you have coarse hair or a lot of it.

There's nothing wrong with your hair, you just need to learn how to style it. If you can't use products specifically designed for African-Americans then choose another product that has been designed with your hair type in mind - slightly oily on the roots (maybe dry at the ends?). If it is dry on the ends, buy a leave in conditioner also.

comb it out when its still wet, put in Pantene Pro-V Hydrating Curls Frizz Cream and clip it up. Leave for about 15 minutes...then take down, put some kind of LIGHT gel in it from top to bottom, but not a bunch because it will get flaky. THEN... use a DIFFUSER!. You can get a hair dryer that has a couple different ones in the box with it. YOU HAVE TO HAVE A DIFFUSER if you have curly hair...its like...a must. Just put the dryer on a LOW setting, and the diffuser puts the heat evenly throughout your hair. ALSO....Air drying will always leave your hair frizzy if u dont use enough product!

Nothing is wrong with your hair. This is just your natural hair texture, work with it, not against it. BTW, african americans have all sort of hair textures, and you don't have to be a light skinned brother or sister to have a less kinky hair texture. I am dark skinned and I have curlly hair, that is pretty easy to manage and I wash my hair every 3 days.

I don't see the problem. You have 3 natural styling options, and your hair does what you want when you want it .

My hair is similar to yours. If I let it air dry, it is extremely wavy and curly underneath. If I blow dry it, it's less wavy but still quite coarse and extremely frizzy. I have to iron it straight to make it look good. I am White but my hair doesn't know it. I have super thick hair that is hard to work with. It's also very long right now too but I'm thinking about cutting it so it doesn't take 2 hours to straighten it. No one really knows your hair like you do. My mom bugs me about fixing my hair more because it looks so crazy sometimes. I'm 28 years old and have lived with my crazy hair all my life. When I was younger it was just wavy, not curly and frizzy like it is now.
