Some people can have infections up to a year after a surgery, so why not you? Plus it's possible, if you keep getting tats and dyeing hair all the time or working with chemicals, to develop new reactions to old things. Get it checked out.

Also, is anything else itchy and swelling?

You may not link your fever with the tattoo and swelling. Our bodies react differently to "cuts" on our skins. No need to worry, the body tries to adjust but it'll take about 2 or 3 years for final adjustment.

One doesn't know for sure if you use a chemical to wash the surface?

Chances are you have minor flu bug. If your tattoo is a year old, most likely you are NOT having an allergic reaction to anything having to do with your tattoo. If you started feeling feverish right after your tat was done, then it probably would be a reaction to the ink or something.

You may have contact dermititis (skin allergy) to something new in your surroundings. New laundry soap? New bath soap? New kind of lotion? Food allergy you were unaware of? Have yourself checked by a doctor if your'e not sure. Other than that, lotsa fluids, rest and try not to scratch. Hope you feel better soon hon :)

I have a tattoo that is 16 years old, when I have a fever it swells and becomes itchy. My Dr. said that my body was trying to get rid of it, I think it's all hogwash!
Good Luck.

cripes! maybe an allergic reaction? Go see a doctor, and fast, I say. You should put some kind of oil on it, I'd say. Vitamin E oil, or olive oil, or aloe vera maybe. But you may need steroids to stop that reaction, unless you're just coming down with a minor illness.

yeah these people above me are right.. that's an infection i guess..
Drink some water, maybe take a multivitamin (for the B complex) if you have something light to eat with it. A hot shower, then a minute of very cold shower, and hot again, and maybe back and forth a few, should shock your immune system into functioning a little bit better. But get to the doctor immediately.
