..to repent? In the gospel of St Mathew (I think) when Jesus hung on the cross, he engaged in dialogue with a thief or common criminal who was there sentenced to die. What did Christ say to him? And does this say that it is never too late, and forgiveness will always be extended to those that truly repent..no matter their crimes upon this earth?

No, it is never too late to repent as long as you are still alive. There is nothing that you can do that is too bad for God to forgive. When Jesus died on the cross, God already knew about all the wrong things that you would do and Jesus already paid for them. All you have to do is accept the gift of forgiveness, not just for your sins (the symptons) but also for your sin (the illness).

The thief on the cross realised that Jesus had done nothing wrong and said 'Lord, remember me when you enter into your kingdom' and Jesus replied 'Tonight you will be with me in paradise.'

Now is the appointed time for salvation. It's not too late until Christ returns. Jesus told the thief,"today you will be with me in paradise", and it was so.The only unforgivable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. To prove that point Jesus took the place of Barabbas, a convicted murderer. This does not mean we don't have to answer for our crimes here on Earth. But always remember that once you are made aware of and know the plan of salvation you will be held accountable for it. God will judge according to our knowledge. Romans states that all of mankind will be without excuse for rejecting God because of the evidence of creation. To whom much is given, much will be required.

It is never too late. This is the wonder of this birth. We are here to perfect ourself. Correct what we have done wrong and go on from there. If you actually pray to the lord with a clean heart and honest intentions then the Lord will hear you and forgive your trespasses. The crux is to truly repent. You cannot fool the Lord

This is true. That is the extent of God's Mercy. He does not want anyone to go to Hell, but His justice must be satisfied as well, which means that every sin must have its punishment. God forgiving us is not Him going soft, there was a cost involved. He took the punishment on Himself as Jesus Christ. When Jesus says to anyone "I forgive you" He is saying "I accept for myself the judgement that you deserve." Now, when you see that Jesus died even for the vilest amongst us, the rapists, the mass murderers, the torturers, you will see it was no small thing. Not a case of saying "It doesn't matter what you've done, come into Heaven." Every person that gains a place in God's Kingdom has done so because Jesus died for them.

But, Jesus also took the punishment for everybody else as well. He died for the whole of mankind, from first to last. For each and every person, He took on the full extent of their punishment, so they have no reason to be cast into Hell by God, except for their own pride, arrogance, self-righteousness and, quite simply, their blindness that stops them from seeing they have done anything wrong at all.

Please catch a grip!! Why can't you take responsibility for your own life and actions? There is no higher being who can guide you or forgive you or whatever it is you are looking for. All this clutching at gods and higher powers is an indication of pathetic insecurity and a total lack of self belief. YOU are responsible for YOUR life, no one else is calling the shots or making the rules. Why waste the one life you get, setting rules for your existance based on the wishes of an imaginary god?? When you die, you die. That's it! Spend as much time praying as you like, it won't change that.
Anyone want this soapbox? I'm finished with it now.

Not to late. Just that I don't need to repent about anything. I'm good as I am. And hey! I did NOT commit any crimes! I'm just an unbeliever.

Never too late, like the theif on the cross, moments from death accpeted Jesus and went to heaven.

What Grace, Grace, beautiful Grace!

he said to the theif "THIS day you will be with me in paradise. "

think. this day. that takes away all theories of pergatory and waiting after death to go to heaven. it says, as soon as you leave here, you are there.

It also say, you are forgiven. Well done, thou good and faithful servant!

Thanks for that question.
