I believe it was when we gained knowledge. I don't believe in the Adam and Eve story as anything but mythology, but I do believe in both God and evolution. I believe it was just a metaphor for when our brains evolved to the point of intelligent reasoning and the thought processes that made us the dominant species. That was what eating the apple represented. So I'm sure our having souls and the entire concept of souls developed out of that accomplishment.
Now I'm kinda going to have to rethink that considering I believe cats, dogs and horses have souls too, but I think it's because they have an emotional intelligence that chickens and cows and bugs just don't have.

Both happened, creationism and evolution (adaptation). Monkeys are amoral they can only react and be a monkey. The difference is conscience. Man has conscience and animals do not. This is why monkeys cannot sin they can only be an amoral monkey. There are no evil crocodiles, they are only crocodiles, being crocodiles. Conscience is what separates us from the animals and connects us to a creator. Going against our conscience is what causes inner conflict and trouble.. Sin is not the act of wrong such as murder, it is much deeper than that. When you can separate from your intellect by being very calm and still your conscience will "catch up" and show this to be true. The first man separated himself from the creator to be a god and know. From that moment he left his "conscience" connection to be a god and had to start using his imperfect intellect to try and understand and create memories. There are two "yous", your thoughts and your "conscience" or "soul". Trusting the "knowing of not knowing what you know" is faith and healing. You cannot run this through your intellect, you need to be still in a special way and discover it within you.
Man and animals were created. Animals were here long before man. They have been evolving to adapt. This is the way it should. Everything eats each other. Big planets eat small ones. Tigers eat rabbits. And if they do not adapt they die. For example if the horses with the longest necks eat from the trees they survive and continue to breed long neck horses. Eventually you may have a giraffe. Man is devolving and has been since the first man. Devil- Devolve, get it?

Very interesting question, save for a major missussumption: that animals don't and that humans have souls. We don't know what a soul is. But if you look at animals through the "sans-soul" glasses, they seem to either be really really stupid robots (what some people do think of them) and/or super-powerful antities that we can't explain (no one belives this because we "know" that we are superior to animals). However, if we assume that all life (animals and plants) have souls to begin with, then more of their behavior seems logical and amazing. There was no point when a "monkey woke up and became a human" because evolution is so slow and comes in stages (all the humanness traits came at different and alternating times). So, we don't know what a soul is, really, but life makes a lot more sense and is more amazing (to me at least) if we just say, that yes, we have souls - and we got them (as well as our other great features), from our amazing ansestors.

So whats your take on what man will evolve into ?? If you believe evolution , then what would make one think that the process stops with man ?? The definition of evolve is " to develope gradually " , so when does the "gradual " evolvement of the monkey stop ?? If monkeys still exist , why is man here if man evolved from a monkey ?? And if the monkey has gradually evolved into man , how and where did man come from if the "gradual " evolvement is not complete ?? I mean we still have monkeys , and we have man at the same time !! If this is true then there can be no evolution . With the evolution therory , the beginning must give way to the evolvement of the next form , we can`t both be here at the same time !! Evolution is a therory that has no facts to justify the end !! Why is it that just the monkey can evolve into man , why not a horse , or a cow ??? What power or law of nature determines that only a monkey can evolve into man and not all other animals ??? No mixed belief here , God is the creator of all things !!

Well - I don't believe in creationism so perhaps my answer is disqualified. I do think that evolution is the theory that is probably the best explanation for the origin of species and diversity of species. Personally I am a bit of an animist so in my worldview everything has a "soul" - even trees and stones and streams and so on... but if you mean a sentient intelligent spirit, with a close resemblance to a human - I guess it would be when they become capable of self-awareness. There are very few animals with this capacity - hominids (humans, chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans), dolphins and a few other cetaceans and (as discovered in the last year or so) - elephants. Self awareness can be tested in pre-verbal children or in animals of other species by showing them a mirror - if they recognize that the image in the mirror is a reflection of themselves - they are considered to be self-aware. Monkeys fail this test... although as I said I think that souls are universal so I suppose it depends what you mean by the term.

This concept of "soul" is utterly ridiculous. It's not a soul in anything. And your energy is no more important or special than anything elses.
You are PART of this universe. You are part of nature. You are NOT above it.
No, all things are made of energy, even matter. The ghosts and things that we see are people strong enough for some reason or another to keep that energy together for a while (it's the same reason why animal ghosts exist too) but it always dissipates eventually. That's why you don't see 1000 year old ghosts.
I really wish people would get off their high horse thinking that they're so important as to be above everything else. It's supreme arrogance to behave that way and it's the reason so many bad things happen because human beings are so cruel to everything and everyone around them.
It's like most of us lack respect for the universe we live in. You talk and talk and talk about god, and how wonderfully priveleged you are. Then you try to push that thought on others as though everyone should accept it.
It's ridiculous and it's so self-centered that it's frightening.

I have been studying Science for the last 10 years
and as for the Theory of Evolution, it is Just that a Theory.
it is basiically like trying to guess what a picture is by only looking at less than one percent of the whole picture.
There are millions of species alive today, and many more species have gone extinct over the history of this planet. also out of the billions of single life forms that have lived on this planet very few Fossils have actually been discovered.(this is the <1%)
these fossils that have been discovered have been used to map out a Theory of Evolution composed of Plateus (rungs of a ladder or steps on a staircase, but with nothing connecting the steps or rungs together) of species. but there are no fossils that have been found that are between these Plateus. for the Theory to ever become a Fact what is reqired is to find fossils that clearly show the change of one species into another (rope, rope-ladder(rungs), or chain of fossil evidence, when graphed will show a slope with horizontal flat sections) or for some currently living animal to give birth to something that is unable to reproduce with the Mother species but is able to reproduce with one that is identical to it.
An Evolutionary-Mutation would be fertile, but would have a completely different Genome from the Parent Species, unlike a normal mutation which damages the genetic code leaving the child infertile or with severe birth defects that ussually end in death, example is a mule which is the cross between a donkey and a horse. though it is similar to the parent species it is unable to reproduce with either species or with other crosses. it is there fore infertile and there for it is a mutation and is not considered a new species.
Many people have tried to claim that the Finches of Galapagos Island and other areas of the world are able to evolve. this is not the case all it is is a case of special specialization. it is simply a case of rececive genes taking dominance through variences in food availability. (the differences noticed in the Finches have been beak sizes and shapes).
As food availability changes the finches that have the genes which will enable them to make the best use of the available foods will gain dominance over those finches whose beak genes are specialized toward the food that is out of season or no longer available. there fore the average shape of the beaks will change over time in acordance to what food is readily available.
The finches have not changed species thay have just become specialized within their species. this can also cause some Genes to become extinct within a Species or Race. this is why "Race" could even be concidered to exist. Can make the Species Stronger or weaker based on what genes are lost over time.
On the other hand if the finches were no longer able to reproduce with the parent species but were only able to reproduce with other finches with the same beak size and shape then that Would mean that they had undergone Evolutionary-Mutation.
But this could only be tested in a Labratory under Precice Conditions.

I am trying to be nice, but you make it very hard to be with such an absurd question. But I have never seen a soul or I imagine that you haven't either, so what is the answer? First, of course, evolution is a myth which can be easily proven to be. And a better question would be: Why, if we evolved, didn't we keep all the abilities that monkeys have, that are better then ours are now? Feet that can to be used like hands. Tails to hang from. Hair to protect the skin. No need to cook food. Live in close knit family groups. Natural selection didn't seem to work to well, did it? And if indeed we have souls, they are a gift from God. You ask your question while assuming somethings, and one can only answer with what one believes. There is no answer that will be correct, totally.
I hope I was nice in this answer !

Not sure where YOU stand but...
The God's Word tells us He created man in His image. This does not mean that He looks like us with arms and legs and such. God is a spirit! Read Genesis again! None of His other creations did He say He created in His image. Nothing but man. Why? Because man was given spirit and a soul. Nothing else was. You CAN'T eveolve into a human with a spirit and soul from something that God created without it, I don't care if science can't explain it, God says differently and He is smarter than any scientist. Have a scientist make dirt for you one day.
Anyhow, if you don't believe God's Word on Adam and Eve and craetion, how in the world can you justify believing ANYTHING in the bible. Furthermore, you want to justify evolution with "God's time relevance was different and "one day" took ages. "
Look at the first chapter of Genesis again. On each of the days, it is plainly described as light and dark making the day.Why do you question 6 days? Why does any human? Because they can't comprehend it, but how could you? We are not capable of understanding everything God can do, but when you limit HIS account of creation with what man says, you just limited GOD. YOU did that. YOU just told God He is incapable of doing it His way. Not something I want to answer for! Where else in the Bible do you question the length of a day? NEVER. If you did, then Jesus would have been in the tomb for thousands of years!!! Why question God? Don't make the mistake of thinking science can explain the Bible. Science is only man's opinion!

You mean chimps? They already had souls. Chimps are amazingly close to humans.
Scientists are discovering the missing genetic link between man and African chimps. Human babies had larger heads, therefore were born early and weaker.
The difference (besides opposing thumbs, whites in our eyes, and I think three more physical characteristics which I forget) is social. Human males help raise the babies. We evolved because our males stuck around to nurture the young.
Oh - I am not advocating against divorce, considering the category this question falls under.
