You forget something. For religious people, tolerating someone else's beliefs is just accepting a paralel way of believing in god with something like a syntax difference or an idiomatic variation. Most people will at least recognize a form of common denominator.
For an atheist, religion is one of the worst form of mind contamination, a scourge to be fought and defeated at ANY cost. Religion in any form is harmful to the future of mankind and dangerously insidious. Once you go atheist, there is nothing more abhorrent than the thought of sacrificing to a myth. It's insulting to intelligence. Nothing will ever reconcile an atheist with religious people. Sorry...

I don't agree. Religions are wicked institutions meant to manipulate societies, through their fears and anxieties over existencial matters like death, and the future. Trying to find good in them would imply lessening their wicked effect, as if you were saying 'Okay, they're wrong, but they have this, at least'. This sounds to me like those who say 'Yes, Hitler killed millions of people, but he loved dogs'. Or the other way, 'Gandhi was a good guy, but he [insert anything wrong you can think of him]'. You see, Hitler was evil. Gandhi was a good guy. Both were humans, so complex and contradictory. But the bottom line is that one was among the best, and the other was probably the worst. We can't forget that. And with the church, it's the same. The overall outcome of their existence is VERY negative (70 million people died in the Americas, during the colonisation, to give you an example).

Well, I think it starts with people of the same religion calling the harassers on their stuff, for us to get along.
I have no problem telling another CHristian that they are getting preachy or judging, and would not mind if they ever criticized me.
This is not supposed to be war, but a free flow of opinion and individuals. To me, that is God working.
Helping people be open minded to other beliefs is tougher!
Ultimately all religion teaches to be kind and loving to fellow man, and I think athiests feel this way too. Only ones who dont have real psychological problems.
Maybe someone else has suggestions how to "open minds"
great question, i really respect it and you.

If it really doesn't matter, why do we have so many religions in the world????? Don't you think if Christ were here he might have a preference? I do.
