I work at a UK airport. The ban is restricting you from taking the lighter through security screening with you. Once you are through to the terminal you are allowed to purchase lighters which have all been screened before sale. These CAN be taken on to a flight with you.
Where you travelling from?

Just had a look on the web and i would say the ban is still on. There is no mention as you have said but it is considered flammable material.
Call the airport to be sure before you go.

I dont think so. I flew from Gatwick yesterday and as I went through the security check, put my 2 lighters into the small tray? Nobody said a word.

yes you can't take them in hand luggage or in your suitcase for some reason, but i dont think they are as strict as about that as when i flew about 2 weeks ago i had one in my suitcase and nothing happened. But the one i had in my hand luggage i had to give to this man collecting them. He now has a lot of lighters all to himself
