It really depends what your interests are. Winnipeg is pretty diverse.

Make sure you go to The Forks. There is a new hotel there that is really nice. The Forks itself is an historic meeting place of aborginal people for thousands of years. It is where the Assiniboine and Red Rivers join. If you are there in the summer time, you can go on a Splash Dash bus and see the "red" water mixing with the other river. There are some nice eclectic shops around there too. The Scottish shop on the 2nd floor on the main Forks Market is where I liked to go. There is also an elevator in there that has a nice view. Check out the signs on the sidewalks that will show how high the water levels got in the two major floods Winnipeg has had. (the last was in 1997)

There is an Imax 3D theatre now in Portage Place. (it wasnt 3D when I lived there, but is now they say) Portage Place is the large mall downtown on Portage Ave. One thing about downtown Winnipeg, watch the one way streets. They alternate and can be somewhat furstrating driving downtown; esp mid week at rush hour.

In Osborne Village there is an AMAZING dessert place called Baked Expectations. It is right on Osbourne Street. One of the things I miss the most about Winnipeg is that place. You can get real food there, but the desserts are what I miss. If you prefer Italian food, down the same street about 10 minute car ride is Monticios restaurant. Oh...Osbourne Street changes names a few times as you drive down it....

You can take a tour of the Legislative Building as well. There is the famous "Golden Boy" on top of the large dome. Inside, there are tours and look for the fossils that are in the walls of "The Leg".

The Winnipeg Zoo isnt as large as some zoos, but I always like it. This time of year is getting cold to walk around, but it is nice. The Leo Moll gardens are nice with their sculptures too. Tavern at the Park is the big restaurant there. (if I recall right) Pricey...but nice.

Club scene...well, I have been gone for a few years now. :) The Canad Inn Polo Park had a big bar in it that was popular when I was there. (good hotel too) The names change all the time, but that is where it is. If you like dinner theatre, Canad Inn Fort Garry has a Celebrations Dinner Theatre in it. There is also a British pub in it. (hotel as well, Canad Inns is a hotel chain)

There are some casinos, Regent, McPhiilips etc. Never been; but I am told they are nice.

Corydon Ave is what they call Little Italy. Very cool area in the summer. Gelato, people walking around, coffee shops etc. A nice street party in the summer too.

There is also China Town area...its okay...but in a "seedier" area of the city, so even when I lived there, I didnt go.

There is a nice Museum of Man & Nature which is right next to The Planetarium. It is on Main Street.

If you are into plays, check out Prairie Theatre Exchange, which is next to the Imax on the 3rd floor of Portage Place. There is also Pantages Playhouse Theatre. If you are going there in the next bit, Sara Constible is an amazing actress and she is in a play there now. Highly recommend it. :) (alright...I know her, but she still is very talented)

Not great for driving, but everyone likes is "Crazy Corner" aka "Confusion Corner". 4 streets meet in a confusing clover leaf in the middle of a busy area. Throw a bus loop in there too...there is a sign you can take a picture next to. :P

If you like history, check out St Boniface. It is the largest French speaking population outside of Quebec. The history there is amazing. In the summer there are walking tours.

There is also a horse race track called Assiniboia Downs. Its on the West side of Winnipeg. Depends when you are going as to if it is there.

There is a lot more...check out Tourism Winnipeg. Winnipeg is very diverse and to say more would be even longer and without knowing when you are going, even harder.

Oh....people in Winnipeg are friendly for the most part. (Manitoba's motto is "Friendly Manitoba") Be wary as you would in any place in the world. Do not leave ANY valuables in your vehicle and watch your wallet etc. Be courteous as well....there are some groups that like to look down their noses at "the locals" and it isnt appreciated.

Have a great time!

ST convered all the bases I was going to give you. My nephew worked at Baked Expectations... and you will NOT go wrong.
Might I add two ethnic favourites... Alycia's in the north end for just like Grandma makes Ukrainian fare. It sure tastes like she did! A classic!
And ya know.. I love the Shanghai Chinese restaurant for it's constant flow of Mandarin language, the "menu for locals' vs the menu for the non locals" order by number, Chinese gourmet. I have yet to find as a good a Chinese restaurant anywhere (except Vancouver) and I haven't lived in WInnipeg in years!
Have fun!
