I am having trouble with my Min pin puppy, she is 8 weeks old.
She is behaving agressivly when you pick her up, pet her and just touch her sometimes. Just a while ago I picked her up and talked sweet to her, then gave her a hug and kiss, and she growled and bit me!!! She has no fear, so I know she aint doing it out of being scared, she's not scared of people at all, she is just behaving mean. But then again when she's sleepy she wants to sleep on my lap and cuddle????? I realy dont know what to do, and i need some help ASAP. I didnt expect my new puppy to have behaver problems at such a young age! Please help!!!

Your pup does have fear and it is fear that she is showing by the growl; She is oh so very young. I don't know how long you have had her but sounds like she was taken away from Mom and siblings way too early and/or the breeder didn't do their job! Some pups will show this behavior but the Mom and the pups would have set her straight and that is why it is not good to remove pups too early and to know your breeder. First, you have to understand that she is a pup and now needs to be taught. Giver her plenty of exercise , don't encourage any play that will reinforce this behavior i.e. tug of war with a toy. Let her work her way to you; sometimes, I would just sit on the floor with a treat and let her feel comfortable to come to you and around you so she will get over the fear. If she wasn't hugged, kissed and handled by the breeder, then this is something new for her. You will have to do what the breeder did not. Soon thereafter, she will bond with you but you need to have patience with her. She has been ripped away from the home and family that she only knew; give her some time and will proper training and patience, she will do fine.

P.S. I have raised several litters of pups so I know this first hand ; a breeder can make the transition so much easy for the pup and new owner and that is the difference in knowing where to get your pup. Our pups were housetrained; family trained; we knew their traits and habits but we lived puppies for 9 weeks - that was our life during that time. We gave them goodie bags with familiar toys, towels and stuffed toys that had their Mom and sibling's scent on them ; food to start off with; trained them with collars and dog leashes etc etc and keep and kept in touch with the new owners for problems or help. We invested the time and effort and it worked and it will work for you too! Enjoy your new puppy ; she is counting on you !

You said 8 week old. When did you get her? Any puppy that is removed from it's littermates before 8 weeks of age will be prone to behavior problems. Puppies are weened at 5-6 weeks and from 6-8 weeks they are learning social skills, bite inhibition, and how to be nice little babies. You may consider talking to your breeder but they probably aren't going to be much help, especially if they gave you such a young baby. Your going to have to be kind but firm with her. If she starts to act like that you may have to grab her by the scruff of the neck and give her a little shake and a firm "NO". Don't SHAKE her, simply give a slight side to side motion that allows her to know you mean business. That's what her litter mates would do. And if she bites too hard, you need to let out a yelp/scream like she's killing a littermate. It should be so startling that she'll let go. Don't JERK your hand away or it will become a game.

I had a min pin that acted that way too, specially if you touched her while she was asleep or trying to go to sleep. I finally hit on the headlock method of treating this aggressive behavior. It worrks great with small dogs. Lay her on her back and hold her head in the crook of your arm, not tight, just enough pressure where she will not get out. Hold her that way for a minute or 2 and she should calm down. If she tries to wiggle free, just say no sternly. It didn't take my min pin but a couple of times doing this and she was a changed dog. Good luck.

It sounds like your pup is trying to dominate you and be the "pack leader"; be firm and discipline when unacceptable behavior occurs. If you don't, the min pin will run your life, not the other way around. Also, since suspiciousness is part of their nature, it would be a good idea to get your pup socialized around other people and dogs to alleviate future anxiety and bad behavior. When she's sleepy, she is cuddling up to you because you are "her pet". Be sure to establish your dominance otherwise you will have more problems in the future. Good luck!

mine was like that when she was that age also. I think it's from being born in kennels. they are weird dogs. at that age mine was only sweet when she wanted to sleep with me or eat. But she's three now and grew out of it. she's very lovable .just like my big dogs. just have a lot of patience.

Maybe you should check her diet. I suggest a good dry food like royal canine with lots of water available. Bob martin might help her too. She might be changing her teeth now. That might make dogs react like that. Don't feed her human food. Stick to a good dry food. See your vet he should know better.
Good Luck
