It is still there. But for alternative, try the Lumpini night bazaar.
Of course, you can always head to MBK, or any of the big shops in the Siam Square area even the Patpong night market or Chinatown.

Chatuchak has not been torn down. There was slight damage due to fire, but the whole place is too big to be burnt down entirely. You can still visit Siam Paragon, Siam Square and MBK.

Hmmm, I think there was a small problem in an area next to the market, but I went there yesterday (Saturday) and it was as busy and hot as ever.
