First go into a quiet room and turn down the lights. Sit in a chair that isn't so comfortable that you will fall asleep. A straight back chair is best. Close your eyes and relax your body starting at your feet and going up. Then focus in on your breathing. Here is where you will use the Manta. If you are a Christian it might be Jesus is Love. Actually your Manta should be your own. There are exercises to do to find your Manta. Too long to go into here.

You are going to breath in the first part of the Manta and breath out the last part. The Mantra should be such that it fits with the rhythm of your breathing. This is why a short one is best. But as I said it should have deep personal meaning for you.

As thoughts come into your mind you are not going to push them out or stop and look at them. You are going to stay focused on your breathing and your Mantra. Just let the thoughts drift past. After a while they will be gone and you will be deeper into a meditative state.

All of this is only a beginning. There are books that you can read. Father Keeting has written some good ones. Look at Amazon.

I am Rational Spirituality,

a "Mantra", usually used by Buddhists, is usually a sentence asserting something that the person asks or hopes for, repeated many times over.

Whereas a meditation is a state of a reduced awareness when the person shuts off the subjective consciousness and opens up to spiritual guidence, during which images or meanings can be conveyed to the person from within their sub-conscious mind, or by spiritual entities, if you like.

Your mantra can be anything you want it to be really...

It can be real words that have some meaning to you or it can be nonsense (or even another language that you don't understand...) the important thing is really what it means to YOU...

If your goal for mediation is a peaceful heart and mind then your mantra should be related to that...

For instance you could say the word peace in 10 languages and that could be your mantra... The purpose is to have something to focus on and to send your energy towards...

A mantra is best if you come up with it yourself and it really holds meaning for you!

Good luck and happy meditating...

Please sit comfortably and keep your back [spine] straight. Now, please angle you head to allow your breath to be unhampered. Please breath slowly, taking deep breaths in and out. Now let your eyes close and say a word you love slowly and enunciated. Do not try to think about anything. Just relax and let your mind flow free.

The word is unimportant for the "mantra" is in the thought and the resonance.

Om Shanthi.

matra's and meditation are only masks for people that are not one with themselves. Look deep and decide what is bothering you and fix it.

If this doesn't work, try suicide.
