Possibly tape worm. If you see little pieces of..... worm, they look like pieces of dried brown rice, where your dog sleeps, thats the problem. you can buy over the counter stuff at the pet store if thats it.

Dogs have anal glands that should be squeezed out once a month. This gland might be too big or she has a bad itch on her rear end that she cannot get to. You cannot always see worms, it;s safe to give her worm medicine to de-worm her anyway. Take her to the vet to check it out. I think she's whining because she's frustrated not being able to stop the itch. Many dogs rub their butt on the ground, but I think you should check it out to make sure it's not something serious.
Imagine you can't scratch where it's itchy. Good Luck.

Her anal gland may be full. First try washing her butt with a little dog shampoo and water. Sometimes they'll just have an itch and that will calm it down. If you know how to check her anal gland, do so. It's a bit messy, so vets or groomers usually do it. Ask around for an experienced groomer, who will know when your dog's anal gland is full. Mine only "empties" it about 2 or 3 times a year. Some inexperienced groomers will want to do it everytime your dog is groomed, but that's not usually the right thing to do. When they empty it, it kind of squirts out a brown colored liquid. It's a bit messy, so I'd suggest your doggie's groomer or vet does it. Good luck!

It could still be worms, allergies or swollen anal glands. The best thing you can do is take a quick trip to the vet and have it checked out. Just a warning. My mother's dog did this and she procrastinated on taking him in... well, they fixed the problem, but after that he always wanted to scratch his butt on the carpet like that since he was in the habit.
Good Luck!

It can be worms,,there are some that cannot be seen with the naked eye.Id recommend a worm check by the vet (bring in a sample that is not over a couple hours).
Or,, it could be her anal glands need to be drained.

It's most likely a case of impacted anal glands. This can be very painful for a dog, and scooting her butt around because of this is normal. You can express these glands yourself, but it's not a pleasant process. You'll probably just want to take her to the vet, and they'll take care of it in a matter of minutes.

She probably has worms or some other parasite not visible to the human eye. Sometimes you don't ACTUALLY see the worms its just the eggs coming out in the stool unless one dies. So my suggestion is to see a vet and get the proper medication to treat the pup!

Her anal glands may be full or impacted. OR, she may have eaten something she is having trouble passing. I would recommend you take her to your vet. Also, she COULD have worms and you won't always be able to see them. Ask your vet to check her for giardia too.

Sounds like worms, but it would't hurt to take her to the vet, or at least call the vet and ask.
