The reason the brackets couldn't be placed on the lingual side of the teeth is because the pressure of the wire that connects to all the brackets,(and is tightened monthly), would tend to pull the brackets off the teeth. Having the brackets on the buccal side of the teeth, gives resistance to the wire, and better pulling in pressure on your teeth. Comprende? Besides, yes, it would be very, very uncomfortable to your tongue, and interfere with your speech. I know, that they can really tear up the inside of your lips, the normal way, but there isn't much choice. Invest in lots of ortho-WAX to gob onto wires or brackets that hurt a lot. IF YOUR TEETH DON'T NEED MUCH straightening, you may be a candidate for Invisalign(the clear plastic tray that fits over your teeth like a bleaching tray)------------bye

I had braces but my teeth moved so quickly that the orthodontist said chances were high that my teeth would move back when the braces came off. When all the work was done that could be, he attached a wire to the backside of my bottom teeth. It isn't attached to all of them, it is attached to the front six. By keeping these in place, my upper teeth and bite have, for the most part, remained in the fixed position. I have one upper tooth that moves a little and I have one of those clear tooth forms (sort of like Invisalign) that I can wear to move it back into place.
I have hear of people having braces placed on the back of their teeth so they wouldn't be seen, but I have also heard it takes a lot of getting used to and can irritate the tongue, causing blisters and cuts. If you are worried about braces being seen ask your dentist or orthodontist about Invisalign.

I wore braces. It seems like it would irritate your tougue and affect your speech since many letters are pronounced by pressing your tongue against the back of your front teeth.

to place anything inside the teeth you need to drill holes in your real teeth and make them hollow...
pretty impossible to do
