1966 Deathtoll went berzerk in Vietnam: 5,008. We were sending in more troops to get the job done. (1967:: 9,378) (1968::14,954) (1969:: 22,000) Thats 58,226 U.S. soldiers "spent" in that war. Right now we are talking about sending in more troops to Iraq to get the job done ... again. This isn't going to be another Vietnam. Its going to be worse. Isn't it easier and safer to defend our country, IN our country? We have the technology, we have the manpower, and we damn sure have the money. We will never stop every militant terrorist in the mideast, thats the nature of a people who honestly believe they are doing whats right. What is it about this that we can't comprehend? Why can't we come back home to our families and defend from our coasts and borders? I'm so over this place!

And remember how we were constantly warned that if we "cut-and-run" from vietnam that they were going to come here and attack us and our freedom.

I so agree with you bro, I went to Iraq in 2004 and I was in Baghdad for a year. I'm currently in college and I love my country and I love the army, but Iraq was a huge mistake It's a ******* mess over there. I hope american leaders will wake up and realize the sooner we leave the better, because its only gonna get worse over there. I prey that no more of our countrys children will have to endure anymore torture over there because this war doesn't benefit anyone. BRING THE TROOPS HOME, and OBAMA FOR 2008.

There is a rather large difference in the two wars. In Vietnam, begining in 1950 and up until 1965, US involvment was limited to training and advisors. They spent most of their time up until 1965 training the S. Vietnamese Army. Large numbers of Combat Troops didn't begin arriving until late 1965. So accurizing your comparison, First 3 yrs. of COMBAT in Vietnam: 29,340, First 3 yrs of COMBAT in Iraq: 2,314. Yep it's another Vietnam, NOT.

So you should really START with 1966. Also you should define when you are going to start counting from. BETTER YET, read up on the history of the war you are comparing IRAQ to BEFORE you start spouting gibberish from some liberal minded pundit! If you don't know what you are talking

Such statistics are meaningless without telling us how many troops were deployed in the first three years in Vietnam, versus the number deployed in Iraq. I'm guessing the latter is a much higher number.

While we're on the subject of Vietnam-Iraq comparisons, remember that our withdrawal from Vietnam before finishing the job resulted in the deaths, imprisonment, or exile of millions of Vietnamese, Cambodians, and Laotians.

A cut-and-run posture in Iraq would yield similarly atrocious results.

Your information is accurate since we initially we arrived there in 1964. In fact, the North intentionally avoided inflicting US casualties in an effort to keep our participation to a minimum.

Obviously...it didn't work.

PS to PERK.... depending on your source the KIAs at Gettysburg were
Union 3155
CSA 4708
For a total of 7863 indicating a difference from your figures of an additional 1116 soldiers (combined) killed in those 3 days. I lived in the area for 3 years, walked the battle field several times, had 11 ancestors on both sides killed there and a bit of a Civil War buff.

wow, no kidding...but the 1st few years of Vietnam were advisers and the infantry was just getting there....the casualties came later as the Cong organized and our numbers increased...but it is an interesting statistic.

And I agree with you on the last part...if we don't get our act together and think about what can happen, we are probably gonna lose a lot more...and things will be grim.

i wish that politicians could have these figures brought to light with where you have received your statistics. as long as they are legit this information ought to be brought to light and then there are those that say what happened in the end of vietnam to the people who lived there was horrible but i am sorry...we should have never been in vietnam OR iraq...ever.

Your questions aren't that, you are making points. Good work, I agree with you. Were did you get the Vietnam death figure numbers? This is important for showing people the similarities of the two wars. We need to learn from history!!! Lets save more lives and bring the troops home now.
