Black coffee will not make you gain weight. In fact, the caffeine in coffee would burn calories - although it would not be a noticeable amount and caffeine as a diet aid is not recommended.
If you drink coffee with cream and/or sugar, or a coffee-like drink from popular coffeehouses, then you have to look at the amount of calories in those.

Depends on your coffee. Black and no sugar = 0 calories. Once you start adding the milk, sugar, whipped cream, chocolate sprinkles, etc., that's when coffee can get loaded with calories. Drink enough of those Chocolate Caramel Crappafrappacinnos with extra foam, and you could have a problem.
Not to mention that coffee is a diuretic; it can imbalance your water intake and dehydrate you, which is not a good condition for weight loss (since your body needs lots of water to help break down and metabolize fat cells).

Coffee itself no, its the addition of milk/cream and sugar mostly sugar that's cause the problem. Reduce your intake of coffee, switch to herbal tea which comes in a variety of flavors these days and enjoy your coffee when you have it. Make sure you drink plenty of water its something like 2 glasses for every cup of coffee but you can reduce weight by reducing other things for example a can of coke cola has 7 teaspoons of sugar it was the most dramatic thing I changed and I lost so much weight. I drink milk coffee as in latte or skim milk chinos, herbal tea water and the occasion coke.

I used to work in a coffee shop. And well black coffee has no calories at all its what you put in it. It depends what kind of coffee your looking at if your looking at a mocha then you have to think of the milk fat the esspresso has no calories and the chocolate of corse does. Basically you have to think of the milk and what size wheather its a tall grande or viente ask the person who takes your order how many onces of milk is in there make sure they bring out the scale to weigh your cup and the esspresso. Good luck try sticking to black coffee it yourt on a diet.

Coffee in and of itself won't make a person gain weight. That all depends on what you put in it. Black or with skim milk or a sugar substiture won't, while coffee drinks high on sugar and other fattening ingredients will.

INDIRECTLY-YES. granted there are no calories in coffee however the culprit here is the caffeine. Caffeine will make you hold water look it up in any medical book

IMHO it depends on your pschology. If you think it's fattening then it is. If you think it's not then it's not. Coffee will not make you fat, it will only make you get addicted if you drink it every morning.
