Every time I see people drinking, they end up either in tears or doing something they cant remember the next day. So why is getting drunk "so cool"?

GOOD question...i used to do it so i could feel "free" of inhibitions. but got sick of the feelings the day after. that is my only reply to that. honestly that is not even an excuse...there really is no purpose i guess other than what i said above or to just forget a crappy day/life.

It isn't cool. Losers, people with low self esteem or people who are easily influenced get drunk. The reasons for getting drunk are as folows:

to "fit in"
to think you are cool
underage kids feel older
to be more "brave"
to escape ones problems
as an excuse to be stupid
some feel like they are only fun when they are drinking

Personally I think it looks stupid and immature to see someone who is obviously drunk making a fool of theselves amd have no idea why anyone would waste their time and money to purposely impair their judgement and act like a fool.

I think that people use it as an excuse to act stupid. "Well, I was drunk" or "I dont remember cuz I was drunk"...is what people say all the time. I really dont see the point of drinking till your sick, but some people live for it. I dont understand it either.

Be Drunk by Charles Baudelaire

You have to be always drunk. That's all there is to it--it's the
only way. So as not to feel the horrible burden of time that breaks your back and bends you to the earth, you have to be continually drunk.
But on what? Wine, poetry or virtue, as you wish. But be
drunk.
And if sometimes, on the steps of a palace or the green grass of a ditch, in the mournful solitude of your room, you wake again, drunkenness already diminishing or gone, ask the wind, the wave, the star, the bird, the clock, everything that is flying, everything that is groaning, everything that is rolling, everything that is singing, everything that is speaking. . .ask what time it is and wind, wave, star, bird, clock will answer you:"It is time to be drunk! So as not to be the martyred slaves of time, be drunk, be continually drunk! On wine, on poetry or on virtue as you wish."

I dont think that getting drunk is in the intention of being cool..i think its just somthing people to do to get over certain situations at that point in time! Honestly I think social drinking is okay but to get to the point of stupidity ..i dont know!!

those are the people who are drinking too much, or for the wrong reasons, aka they do it because its "cool". The real reason that people drink, the people who do it at home, and not in excess, is simply for fun. It makes you feel good, and can allow you to have fun if youre bored and theres nothing to do.

It's different for everybody, but for me:

Getting drunk feels good. It feels like... like you can do anything, or that the world can't hurt you. It numbs you out, but doesn't leave you useless like pot. It tosses inhabitions aside. It makes you love everybody, and everybody love you. It makes you not care when some other drunk throws his drink at you when you won't dance with him. It feels free. it feels magical.

I think some people use it as a reason to act crazy and stupid. I never understood when people said "I just wanna get drunk". For me, being drunk is miserable. Now being buzzed and tipsy? Fun. :)

Getting drunk is Not cool. You feel rotten the next day. Hopefully all you get is a hangover vs. a jail sentence for dui or manslaughter!!!!

Drinking is a social act that makes people feel like they can do things without being responsible for them. Because it lowers your inhibitions, it makes you less worried and less stressed, and can allow you to speak more openly or do things you would be too afraid to ordinarily.
