If it is sterling silver, then it it .925 (92.5%) silver and .075 (7.5%) copper. It should not contain nickel.

However, if this sterling piece is from Mexico--they often plate their silver with nickel in order to help it retain its shine and diminish tarnishing. These effects last as long as the plating holds up. Mexico started doing this after the Italians began coating some of their sterling with a member of the platinum familty to also help it retain its shine and diminish tarnishing. The "Italian Finish" should cause you no problem because the platinum-metal group is the least likely of any metal to cause allergic reactions. However, it is expensive to plate with it so the Mexican Sterling Silver Fabricators resorted to nickel.

A piece marked .999 (99.9%) silver is Fine Silver, not Sterling. It is rarely used in a piece like a bracelet because it just does not have the strength to hold up.

German Silver is a fancy name for Nickel--it's inexpensive, it's strong, it keeps its shine--and it causes allergic reactions in at least 5% of the general population.

For goodness sake, stop wearing the bracelet. If, after the rash clears up, you want to try the bracelet again, then make certain you wash the bracelet thoroughly prior to wearing it. It is always possible that something got on the bracelet and with prolonged exposure to your skin is causing an allergic reaction and that the rash is not due to the metal-content of the bracelet.

Also, it is not unusual for people who develop an allergy to one metal to begin developing allergies to other metals over time. So, be observant if you're wearing jewelry. It might be a good idea for you to not leave earrings in pierced ears overnight. An allergic reaction at night would go undetected till you either awoke at your normal waking time or were awakened by discomfort from the allergic reaction.

Good luck.

It depends, if the bracelet is sterling silver coated then you are most likely having a reaction to nickle. Pure sterling comes in several different grades 999 is the highest. Look inside your bracelet and see if it is marked with a 3 digit number starting with a 9. If its not marked, then you will know. Take some benedryl that will help.
