Just as Linux and Sun Solaris are based on Unix, the Mac operating system is also. It is not an emulator. It is a result of an open-source development project called Darwin, with hundreds of programmers all working to make improvements in Free BSD so it would be the best Unix version available for home use. Of course, it has a graphic interface since Apple Computer was the first company to sell a home computer with windows and a mouse.

With virtually no exceptions, all versions of Unix use a graphic interface because it's a total waste of time to type commands instead of just clicking with a mouse. But if you want to control the computer by typing Unix commands, that is available, for example, by just opening the Terminal application. Be careful, though, Unix commands can do almost anything in the way of changing or deleting files!
