A great deal of her history is hidden from the public and held within the Vatican. Her "virginity" requires a different understanding of the word "virgin" as in a woman who has not yet been "owned" by a man, as in married. The generations and translations have made for many misunderstandings of the actual history of the historical being called Mary mother of Jesus of Nazareth. An excellent academic reference beginning point is: An Introduction to the New Testament by Carson and Moo, (get the newest version, it has many improvements and updates from prior editions). Granted, this is the New Testament, and does not cover the earlier periods that you likely seek, however, this book is not full of propaganda, and does offer many excellent resources, that are likely to facilitate your search. Search through many of the so called alternative approaches that focus on and appropriately value the female, and offer sufficient attention and detail to the story of Mary. A good reference librarian at a quality public library should be able to help. ( that is if you are not in a terribly biased and oppressively fundamentalist area such as the bible belt or a similar situation.) If that is your case, then try Google.com, for info, read book reviews and recommendations and order books from the many online new and used booksellers to get the information that you seek. Only Luke chapters 1 thru 5 tell much about her and a couple of chapters of Matthew.Her geneology is in Luke,Joseph's is in Matthew.
Joseph came through King David's line through his son Solomon,Mary came through his son,Nathan.
