I don't think that there is any difference ... unless it is in the ears.
In the UK Boxer's ears are not cropped & therefore they flop over naturally, as nature intended. I believe that in America there is a tendancy to crop the ears & so they stand up on the dog's head. This may be what you mean when you think that there are two sorts.

The boxer is a German breed, developed in the late 1800s from mastiff-type dogs known as bullenbeisers (bull-baiters).
I do not know of any ''American Boxer".
