Get A bita 4inch pipe a meter long , weld steel cap on one end of the pipe, be sure the weld is air tight, reduce other end down 2 an inch and a half cone shaped piece of pipe , funnel shaped. Weld a 2inch threaded nipple to the funnel end thread inch and a half ball valve onto it, then thread 500mill of inch and a half pipe into ball valve. On welded cape end of pipe drill and tap and then thread an air compressor hose fitting. Clip compressor hose to fitting. Turn ball valve off and fill chamber with air from the compressor. be careful not to exceed the pressure limit (Pressure could blow the welds). Push potato down 500mil pipe be care full not to push it in to far as it may fall into the chamber. Once pressure has built up turn ball valve on quickly. Potato will project out cone end of pipe.

Not much info here. How big of a "cannon"? The most simplest "air cannons" (hobby type or just for fun) are of two basic kind. The "canned propellant" type (generally using compressed air) and the "piston" type. Both are common in air pistols and rifles.
