My best friend and I are thinking of possibly getting similar Chinese-symbol tattoos. It would probably be inner-lower hip, if that makes sense, and fairly small (but not tiny, maybe an inch and a half or two) . We had a few things in mind as to what they should say...but nothing for sure. Any thoughts? What do you think?

So here’s the deal. We want something sexy, but that won’t show when we don’t want it to. That’s why we’re thinking of lower inner hip.

cool idea, i'd get a tiny one like near the hip bone but low enough so it won't show with low rise jeans so when u wear bikinis' it'd show but for everything else itd be invisible

so you can show a wild side and a cool, business like kinda side if that makes sense

id get something like two cherries or something :-P but that's just my opnion.. something sexy bc not everyone can read chinese

Well I'm against getting something with another friend. That's just me personally. Yea she's your best friend now, but if you guys got matching tattoos or did this together, there is the possibility you would grow to hate each other and then hate the tattoo. I have a Chinese character on my lower back and I researched the symbol for 3 years before I was sure it meant what I thought it meant. People still tease and question if it really does mean what it's supposed to, but either way, it symbolizes what I believe it does.
As far as the inner hip, I hope you aren't having kids...That wouldn't be a good place to put one if you do plan on having kids one day.

Tattoos can be a wonderful display on the human body.
However are you Chinese? What does this symbol mean? When people DO see it are you going to have explain the meaning EVERY TIME? What happens if your body changes and distorts the tattoo? Are you completely finished growing? What if you become pregnant? Will the tattoo be effected by the change of your body? What if something happens to effect your friendship with your best friend? Will this tattoo be a consist reminder of that person? What is this tattoo going to mean to you mean you are 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 years old? Those are the factors to think about.

If you feel as though this is what you want to do. It is your body. Only you can decided the answer.

I am 32 and have several and love each and every one of them. They all represent a different time in my life. But they are all placed where they can be hidden if I need to. Unfortunately tattoos still aren't acceptable in most professions.

However you have to really think it through it is permanent. When I'm 65 I won't be disappointed and I wouldn't be embarassed to show my grandchildren. The Henna thing is a great idea. Try it out first and see if you truely like it.

Tattoos shouldn't be a whim. My husband had a tat done once and ended up with a severe infection in his forearm. It took three rounds of antibiotics to get rid of it. I also had a friend who got one to piss her boyfriend off and now she hates it but it is permanent.

Make sure you research the symbol and then take the symbol to the artist. Ask people you see with tattoos where they had them done so you go to a reputable place. Make sure they use fresh sterilized needles and equipment each time. They should open the package right in front of you to show you it's been sterilized or new.

My brother got his tattoos on his stomach and both of his legs when he was 18 (he's 22 now). When her girlfriend suffered from a severe decease way back then and the doctor found out that his blood type is compatible with his girl, without second thought, he was willing to donate his blood. Suddenly the doctor found out that my bro has tattoos and refused to take blood from him. Any form of injected tattoos may give blood a certain form of bacteria from the ink or syringe used. You can donate blood after a year though, but still, it's not 100% safe anymore.

My bro also suffered difficulties in applying jobs. Many business establishments, agencies and other companies are very strict when it comes to tattoos nowadays.

In short, having a tattoo for me (even the smallest one) is a no-no. You may experience different consequences after-or your parents might get mad.

You may look cool with no tattoos. Go for a henna tattoo, instead.
Or may I suggest to just update your wardrobe and touch it with sexy details, 70s trend, latest trend.. anything that will spice it..

Think about it girl..

if you have to ask then you're definately not ready, i'd been thinking about tattoos at a very young age and decided what i wanted at age 12 then finally after 4years of long hard thinking i git it at 16 on my hip, that was painful enough i don't even want to imagine how much it would hurt if i got it much lower. you have to seriously think about what you're donig cos its such a big step i mean you're gonna have it til the day you die so you don't wanna just get it on impulse. think about the consequences, what if you and your friend start to hate each other will you regret it, will you love this piece of art in 20 years or will you find it ugly, you have a lot to think about

I agree with the majority of the previous posters, especially the one with the comment about your even asking. If you want to get this PERMANENT tattoo, then share the experience with your friend. But, do it because it's your choice, your design, your needs, etc.

And yes, the "professional" world looks down upon tattoos for a reason. Consider that too.

Good luck

If you need to ask, you're definitely not ready.

By the way, not all friendships last forever, even though they seem they will. What happend if you have a huge fight, and everytime you see you tattoo you're reminded of her and how much you dislike her?

Not a good thing...

first of all chinese tattoos are a bad idea! becuase sometimes people will **** with you and tattoo some other meaninig! second the inner lip is a horrible place for a tattoo, your natural movment and saliva will destroy the tattoo and it will turn to a blur. plus that skin is always being replaced so it will disapear in 10 years or just look like ****! plus its really hard to find sombody to tattoo your inner lips because they know it will end up bad!!!! so if ure gonna get some in i would get somthing like a flower or somthing u have in common that u both enjoy and put it on an ankle or some other place that is hidden!
