Haggard was not a televangelist. Many televangelists are not part of a church and use their programs for profit. They are not accountable to elders or a church body.

As far as ministers, yes, they should be held to a higher standard.

no they should be held to their OWN standards.

if Mr. Haggard had not been one of the most outspoken people against Gay marriage then it would not have been such a scandal.

the man was saying deragatory things about gay people and trying to deny them their rights to live a happy life while he himself was engaging in Gay relations. this makes him a liar in addition to a false prophet...

no not a higher standard. the standard that they set themselves.

if you are going to talk the talk WALK the Feakiggn WALK.

we've become an extremely polarized u . s . a .. the effortless fact this that anybody who solutions this question will see the respond interior the direction of the scope of their very own international view. Republicans will think of this is they who're held to the better properly-known, and Democrats will think of this is they, and we are able to argue it till it gets so nasty we won't stand one yet another and no-one desires to return to the question, yet in fact, that anybody could desire a return to a rustic the place we don't hate one yet another and this question would not exist. If that cannot be finished, i think of we could desire to continually chop up the land, chop up the money, the sources, make copies of each and every of the intelligence and militia archives, chop up the weapons and circulate our separate techniques. TIM, please cease with this. The media are actually not liberal. it incredibly is an invention of offended conservatives aggravated by way of no longer listening to their appropriate international view contemplated while they watch the information. Conservatives desperate that neutrality grew to become into liberal. They got here out with FOX. that's been all downhill from there. i'm "a liberal" and that i've got written to CNN a minimum of 10 cases approximately their editorial slant interior the final 3 months. of direction, with FOX, it may be ten cases in step with day for the final 3 months.

Any one who puts themselves out in the public eye needs to be aware of their image. This goes for tele-evangelists, sports stars, movie stars, models, politicians, and any one else that young people try to emulate and consider as heros. When a hero does something wrong and gets a lot of attention, the youngsters who idolize that person are disappointed. If no punishment occurs for the wrong behavior, the young people think they can do the same kind of things and get away with it. All public figures need to be aware of the effects their behavior has on followers and fans.

I place televangelists in the same category with other scam artists who con people. Just consider them another "infomercial" selling snake oil.

Truly ethical spiritual people hold themselves to a very high standard.

These two groups do not intersect.

I don't think a minister should be high profile period--it's a contradiction in terms and makes it impossible for them to maintain humility--televangelists are the biggest joke that christianity has come up with--preacher/superstars--would jesus have live tv coverage, a makeup team, a wardrobe designer, and a 15 billion dollar budget?

High-profile ministers are nothing more than businessmen hiding behind the facade of religion. It's not surprising that they are often exposed for being so (case in point, Jim Baker, who is back on television, by the way). I think it's rather fitting that the same people who damn gays for being immoral turn out to be practicing the same lifestyle. I find that those who claim to be holier than thou often turn out to be the most despicable beings.

It is not because of his fame -- all people are judged by the standards we use to judge others. If this minister held himself and others to higher standards, he will find himself held to the same in order to learn humility and repentance of any hypocrisy in the process of learning and teaching this lesson. Those who are most forgiving, in seeking to heal past wrongs to restore relations and correct and prevent future problems, will be granted mercy to be forgiven and the opportunity to make amends so that all may benefit.

If this man is called to use his experience to bring healing, correction and reconciliation of all unresolved issues his case brought forth, I hope he responds to that calling to help others.
If God intends to use him as a public example to teach from, it may be that his fame is a factor in reaching more people.

The Lord's prayer speaks about being forgiven for trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. So we will get the mercy we give. This can be either a curse or a blessing; that is why the justice of Jesus is represented as a double-edged sword. If you live by the sword, you will suffer under the same. It depends if you believe in retributive justice which judges and punishes, in order to humble the nonrepentant, or restorative justice which shows mercy for those willing to make amends.

No person should think they are any better than the next.
It's people who put them up on these pedistals and make them feel like their all that.
Well they are just like you and I, they get cut they bleed the same red blood as all of us. At the end of the day we are all human. If anything they should be reiterating that back to the community.

All ministers, pastors, priests, etc. should be held to a higher standard and should themselves strive to conduct themselves accordingly. If they cannot do so, they should step down or be forced to by their respective congregations.
