I am 26 yrs. old. 8 Mo. ago I had a baby by c-section 3 1/2 mo. early due to HELLP syndrome. Then, 3 weeks later ended up with a Pulmanary embolism (blood clot in the lung). I am on blood thinners, don't drink, sometimes smoke. I have numbness in my side around the base of my rib cage, on rare occasions, there is a little pain involved before the numbness. The feeling is inside, not the outside skin. My doctor doesn't think it is anything, but I can't help wondering. Ths has been going on for almost 5 months now.
Does anyone have any advice? Know anyone who has felt like this before???

When it comes to changing my diet, there isn't much I can do. I can't eat things with vitamin K, which includes all leafy green, and most green veggies. I cut out sweets, caffiene, do all my cooking pretty light, and avoid pasta as often as I can. As for the smoking - give me a break people! lol seriously, i cut back a lot not even 1/2 a pack a day now. But I have had a lot to quit in the last 8 months. I'm getting there....

With your history of HELLP you need to seek another opinion right away. Also a PE is nothing to sneeze at. Both are life threatening conditions. Your body is trying to tell you something, listen to it! Get to another Dr. right away for their opinion. I am a retired OB nurse and have seen patients with complications like yours, even months later and the outcome was not good, Don't ignore the warning signs.

Stop smoking and no eating "junk" foods or meats (pork, beef, chicken), butter, etc. Keep on avoiding alcohol, and continue to check with a doctor. Instead, eat fruits, vegetables, on occassion turkey, and grains; drink water ( two liters/day if possible). Exercise daily (walking, lifting weights, play sports). Also, let the people around you and your home (neighbors, friends) know that you have a medical problem and that it has been needing attention.

Sounds as if there was some nerve damage or impingement of a nerve. I would definitly push the issue with your physician and ask for an MRI to rule out any serious pathologies. If your doctor is not willing to persue it, I would definitly look into a new physician as this one does not have your best interests at heart. Good luck.

I don't know but God Bless! I would get a second opinion. Your doc may have damaged a nerve or it's gotten pinched or something. My arm or leg will get numb like that because of my nerves from my back. I can feel when I touch it with my hand but inside it tingles and is weak feeling.

Heart problems? Stroke? Gall bladder? You need to keep trying to get a diagnosis from a doctor. And, for gosh sakes, don't be in denial about cigarette smoking. It kills way too many people, and it killed my wife at a young age. If you have an infant, surely you quit smoking while pregnant, didn't you? Surely you're not smoking around your child, are you? If you want your child to be healthy, and if you want to be around to see your child grow up, quit smoking now. Now! Right now! Go throw those cigarettes away RIGHT NOW!!

Try a dietary supplement. I had numbness and pain 4.5 years ago. Went to the doc who diagnosed it to be a nerve problem. Had therapy & medications which did not help. The dietary supplement helped my problem. You can write me at jade_flowershop@yahoo.com for details if you want.

You will need to go to the ER, and have it checked. It sounds like you could have had a small stroke. You will need to get this checked immedialtely, Best of luck with the new baby. You want to be around for the baby's life. Please get it checked.
