What you're going sounds a lot like anxiety. Usually anxiety is triggered by something that you're not even aware of. It could be an imbalance in hormones or chemicals. Or it could be that your nerves are shot because of stress. It could be a bad phone call you had three days ago that's been eating at you, or a conversation you overheard at work that you just can't shake. I have anxiety moods that catch me offguard and can keep me looking over my shoulder for weeks. I never knew how to handle them, until a few years ago. So here's some ideas I've proved to be true, that I hope will help you get a good night's sleep:
1) Exersize about an hour before bed. The endorphins it raises will actually calm your mind before you rest your head. It will also release any stress that you're holding on your shoulders. I go walking or running inthe summer, and lift weights and body-toning exercises in the winter.
2) Write a journal of your day. Get things off your mind, and write down what you're pictuing in your mind. Sometimes the best way to stop thinking about what's around the next bend is just to open the door and find out what's there. I'm not talking about writing a novel - just get th thoughts out of your head and in front of you so you can really see it for what it is.
3) Make sure you're getting enough B-vitamins, especially B-12, which manages moods and helps you deal with stress. I suggest a supplement, although increasing your intake of dark greens and decreasing your intake of belached sugars will greatly help also. I started taking a b-complex suplement along with my nutritional changes about 3 years ago and my husband followed suite, of his own accord, after the stress of his job brought him home with tense shoulders and an aching body. He finally gets good sleep now.
4) Use a sleep aid. There are many out there on the market, but I highly recommend Melatonin. It's the natural hormone in your body that is released according to how much light is not in the room. In essence, the less light, the more melatonin. Most of the time, though, there's always light, so taking a melatonin supplement will help you drift away safely, without any risk of habit or dependency.
5) Make things safer for yourself in your own mind. Leave a night light on. Play a radio. Leave a light on in the hallway. anything that will calm you so that you can rest.
6) Nothing above beats being calm within yourself. Are you content with who you are? Are you content with your lifestyle? There's always a longing for more contentment. I found it through my faith in God. You may want to evaluate how your life is going. Faith can do amazing things, including give us courage against the fears of our own mind.

I'm with warrior hamster.. i have been there earlier than, and it is real frightening. whilst you enjoy this style of phenomena, have an understanding of that it is very special (so much ppl do not enjoy it), and also you will have to consider fortunate to be that during contact along with your non secular facet.. however i do know that does not carry tons of remedy at this second.. it's sleep paralysis, as each person else has stated.. however the factor that factors this can be a spirit.. and that i comprehend it would possibly sound spooky, however those matters are truly-- and it sounds spooky to people who rather are not in contact with their non secular facet and have not skilled those matters for themselves. i are not able to speak an excessive amount of approximately it, considering the fact that i am at paintings.. but when you are devout, it is most important so that you can get your Bible, and take a look at to learn a couple of psalms earlier than going to mattress, and ask God to ship angels to look at over you and look after you from those evil spirits. in fact, devout or no longer, you have got to do this... it is going to subside so long as you might have security... however correct now, it needs to thieve anything from you, if most effective your peace of brain.

I know exactly how you feel. I'll lay on my stomach, and then since I can't see the door I have o lay on my side or my back. And DO NOT wear the eye mask. I wore that one night and I didn't get to sleep for 3 nights after it. I just feel like theirs something there, watching me, waiting for me to dooze of....I know how you feel.
