Vanity comes before a fall. All human beings have vanity in their hearts. Others though have more of it than they should have. They think only of themselves and of their pride. A very typical example is this. There were two friends, they got into a fight about a trivial matter which later, they can't even remember what. The other wants to patch up things but the other does not want to because she wants to maintain the idea that she is strong and therefore unyielding. So she refuses to forgive. So a wonderful friendship was broken (fall ), all because of vanity and pride.

(Vanity has more to do about the physical appearance. but i can't think of a good example. You will just have to improvise on this. Good luck.)

Pride was one of the seven traditional deadly human failings according to Greek philosophy. They believed that Pride was normal (not a sin) but when it consumed your life it was deadly. The Christians incorporated it into the seven deadly sins, and took it to the level that all pride would be destructive. The reason is simple, pride is a temporary thing, whatever you are proud over probably will not last. If you earn your pride from your own hard work that could be destroyed, if you are prideful about your appearance that will not last.

Vanity is a character of a person. It remains through out their life. The king might have no vanity but the beggar might have.So its not with any rise or fall.
