I had a cat that was about 15 years old and had diarrhea for a long time. the vet suggested that it could have been a stomach problem and not to look further because it probaly is something not so good...so i made her as comfortable as possible. She lose so much weight near the end from the nutrients lost from the diarrhea adn could hardly walk any more, it got to the point that I had to take her to the bathroom. Don't wait as long as I did, I loved her dearly and wanted her around, but she was not happy with the life she had. for about a week I took her outside and let her lay in the sunshine in my front yard. And when I got strong I took her in to be put asleep. very sad and I hope things don't go this way for you, but with the cats age, it's probably not a good sign. Do what you feel is right for the cat. I was with my fatima when she just fell asleep. Peace to you and make ssure you get the advise from a vet.

What can you do ? How about get him to a vet for a full checkup...diarrhea lasting longer than 24 hours is not good in any cat. Take a used puppy pad with you so the vet can test the stool sample. Could be anything! I'd be worried about dehydration or food incompatibility.
Best Wishes
