My mom just got her hair cut short, and according to her, it grew very fast this time. Faster than normal. I said it was because she got it cut so much shorter the last time. Is that true?

Cutting hair has absolutely nothing to do with the rate that hair grows. Hair grows from under the skin of the scalp, at the follicle root. Cutting takes place at the ends.......they don't have any connection at all.

Often when hair is cut in a short style, it will appear to grow faster. This is because it has a very specific style, (average hair growth being a half inch a month). So, add half an inch to short hair and it's much different, add half an inch to long(er) hair it really doesn't appear much different and isn't as noticeable. Which is why when your hair is a shorter length it will seem like you need a haircut more often because it will lose it's shape faster than long hair. Regularly trimming your hair will help you to gain length faster, since you are preventing the ends from splitting and creeping up the hair shaft and breaking off.

No...it just seems to get longer faster because it starts out shorter. The only thing cutting hair does is removes dead ends and makes your hair appears healthier.

Not at all.Hair grows at a fixed rate in people, depending on the person. What makes hair grow?Hair is made up of keratin, which is an amalgamation of minerals such as potassium and sodium, and protein. Its the same stuff that makes up your nails. However, eating a lot of this stuff won't make your hair grow faster;in fact, nobody is really sure that affects these changes of rates in people.

No, get it trimmed regularly(4-6weeks). When you don't get it trimmed then your split ends start to break and therefore it doesn't seem to get any longer because it is always breaking.
