NO THAT'S NOT TRUE!!!
Foreigners do marry Americans but these days there are much more strict laws when it comes to that. The immigration(home land security) has restrictions to make sure that people don't just get a quickie wedding to get their citizenship then get a quickie divorce. As far as I know, you will be stuck with the marriage for quite a while if you choose this route. Keep in mind that one doesn't get a green card right away, regardless what path you take. You have to start with some kind of non-immigrant visa first.
remember, there are many other ways for an individual to get
his/her legal immigration status without marrying someone that you don't love

Actually marrying an American citizen does not automatically keep you in the U.S if you are filing for your green card. You may be required to go back home and wait while your papers are processed. You can apply based on your own merits, have your employer apply for you if you are an asset to the company or person, or you can have a family member like a mom or dad apply for you. Marriage is also an option.

There are other ways-you should check with your local immigration office. And, if you get caught marrying a US citizen only to stay in the states, you can get in trouble.

That's one way to do it. It's probably the fastest way too. But don't marry for that reason, please. Unless it's an emergency. But you can apply for citizenship through the US Immigration Service. That's the honest way to do it. Good Luck!
